Hot 100: DISEASE is predicted to debut inside Top 20, DWAS new peak at #2

If DWAS doesn't go #1 in 2024, I do think it will still have a strong chance in the first weeks of january when all the Christmas songs plummet. No one really releases new music in december and early january. And from the big hits charting atm, DWAS is actually one of the most recent ones so I could see it still being popular in january.

many signs are showing that they’re gonna promote DISEASE on its 2nd Week, it’s on #1 TTH with cover on Spotify just today.

Agreed. It’s very interesting to me that people are having meltdowns on here when it was just moved to the NUMBER ONE SPOT on TTH Spotify Playlist. And if I’m not wrong, it’s there for the full week, no?? Plus, we don’t have physicals yet, and it was the most added song to pop radio of 2024 … we could have a smash on our hands! Am I crazy or?

Considering it's predicted to be peak at #2 with Gaga posting a live performance video, with vinyls shipping, with discounted version and discounted new instrumental version, I don't see how the song could go #1 in 2 months. They played all their cards this week and it wasn't enough for #1 unfortunately

This is news to me and blows my mind. The internet really fractured how music is consumed. I literally just heard that Tipsy song for the first time the other day, and it was because I actively sought it out being like “the F is this song that’s on the charts so long”…never heard it naturally once. Meanwhile I could not escape Espresso this summer.

A Bar Song will continue to lose radio points during november and december and it's the only platform keeping it at #1. DWAS is genuinely a popular song and at the start of january the chart points are usually very low, so it could definitely go #1 without any extra cards necessary to play.

I actually agree, I also think that in case it misses this week, it still has a chance later on, especially due to radio. I also think the song is gonna survive nicely next to all the Christmas songs, it’s literally a timeless release and it feels especially cozy and sweet for this time of the year. The fact that it’s STILL pulling almost 11 mil streams and barely went bellow 10 for a little since it’s release, is a great sign that it will have the kind of longevity we haven’t really seen yet with a streaming hit. If it doesn’t happen this month, it might happen in January, if not, it’s gonna sit next to the legendary Bad Romance for being one of the biggest songs ever to not reach nr. 1 but that we all collectivly consider a nr. 1 track.

As for Disease, if it doesn’t peak this month, it won’t happen later on. I also doubt a nr. 1 but hopefully a top 5 is possible.

I mean, it's not a conventional Pop song, and it's probably the only song, in such style, that touched the HOT100 chart at all this year.

Many of us wanted her to do darker music, and Disease is just that. We can't have it both ways: we can't have unconventional industrial pop, and the audience reception of a traditional, safe pop song.

It is what it is. She gave us the industrial single we've been wanting for years, she filmed a very minimalistic video for it, the song is doing as well as it could possibly do.

I can see it going higher if it goes viral on TikTok and kids start vibing with it, but as of now, this is as good as it'll get for a song like "Disease", and we should be ok with it.

Her making an album with just music that she likes, ignoring all current trends, is a very appealing concept to me. One of the consequences of this, will be lower chart performance, and I'm fine with that.

On the contrary, I think it sounds very commercial. I mean, as much as I like it, the lyrics are very cliche and are similar to ones I've heard on other successful songs. I've seen many fans actually saying she played it safe. It also has a super compelling video that's a little bit controversial, which is great for getting views (just check out Sabrina Carpenter's Taste, which is even more controversial). I thought this was all the perfect storm for a comeback single and seeing as fans left and right are praising it and it's doing well on Spotify, why aren't they watching the video?

And as much as it's all about enjoying the music, the sad fact is that lack of chart success and lack of sales and streams can cause artists to be sidelined by their label. They're less likely to get offered the chance to make more singles and videos (check out Dua's current era for proof of that). Promo stops. Their tour is either very small or doesn't even happen. Their next album usually results in even less support by their label (check out Katy Perry post-Witness). I don't want this to happen to Gaga. Chart performance isn't everything but it's a big factor in if your fave is even able to make music in many cases. Label support is crucial for your album to do well and if your label thinks you're a flop and not worth investing in, your career inevitably goes downhill. I don't want to be focused on chart performance but if you want to have more music from your fave in future, you kinda have to prioritise it.

You're right but we dont have to worry about Gaga

She NEVER had a flop era comercially, I still remember how high the Joanne debut Numbers were, the predictions were all lower

Gaga has had a hit EVERY era so far.

Sure, but that was back when sales were higher, YouTube views were higher, when Gaga was younger and therefore more accepted to be successful. She's yet to have a true flop but there's always a first time. You can't be successful forever. And a flop era can come out of nowhere with no warning, look at what happened with Katy with Witness and Dua with Radical Optimism. There was no indication that either of them were about to flop, they went into their new era with hits and yet it all went wrong. I'm just saying we shouldn't take anything for granted just because Gaga's been in a purple patch for quite a while now. Those current YouTube views/likes and chart placements are a sign that we've got too comfortable and too complacent.

I understand that, and truly a successful album rollout won't always be the case in the near future. That's why it's important for us to switch our perspective of success from now on, it's not realistic to expect a hit single, #1 album, commercial success and the whole world to pay attention to what she's doing. However, that's not flopping.

People are consuming things differently nowadays. There's also a new generation coming up and we can't expect new audiences to like everything from previous decades. Are we following up artists from the 90s/80s in the same way we follow current popular artists? No, but that doesn't mean they are a flop, they're just as praised

Good thing is Gaga has already rebranded herself in ways other artists from the 2010s have failed to, so you'll keep seeing her succeed in touring, movies, her catalogue being timeless, look how past songs that aren't singles are now resurfacing, etc...
