3.8M but Woman's World 3.4M....:saladga:

It's really a fan-service song and video after all.

Not trying to be THAT person but Katy and Capitol were truly promoting the f*ck out of the song, especially compared to Disease. Katy did countless interviews and posts/fan interactions, Gaga and Interscope have literally dropped the song, posted about it, and playlisted it. Katy's return to music was very hyped and publicized this time around, but we know how that went lol. Over 3 months later it sits at 17 million views on YT, having garnered 20% of that on day one lol

You can’t compare, nobody in the west uses youtube anymore.

Good comparisons are Billie’s BOAF which got 4 million, and KP’s WW which got 3.4, and DWAS which got 5.4M. It did good

This is wild because I watch YouTube every day :cryga:

I'm pleased that it beat Woman's World views and likes at least but it should've done so much better. Not bad for a song that didn't have a ton of pre-hype or knowledge and already had a lyric video out for 5 days beforehand but...it is Gaga's first lead single in 4 years and she just came off the back of a huge hit with DWAS which is currently smashing. The song is being widely enjoyed by fans and critics alike, so why aren't they turning up for the video? It simply makes no sense. I sincerely hope she's being watched on other services and it's counting towards streaming because this was a big anti-climax after how excited fans apparently were for it. I get it, it's not 2016 anymore, YouTube isn't as big business for music videos anymore but look what DWAS just did.

Bit of an exaggeration to say no one here uses it. I've been using it everyday since it got invented. I use it it to watch EVERYTHING. I'm literally on it with multiple tabs open constantly. Maybe it's because I'm a millenial but I don't know anyone who doesn't use it or stopped using it. As far as I can see, as long as a song is a hit, it won't have a problem getting views. Look at Gaga's most recent big YouTube hits and any big hit single this year. I'm just confused that her fans are apparently loving it yet the views would suggest something else. She's got 25 million subscribers. Not even a quarter of them have watched it so far. I get it, it's not used in the west as much but Gaga has a ton of fans in Asia. I saw that this is why DWAS's views and likes are so high because it's a big hit over there. So why didn't those some people turn out for Disease?

But i think the users point is that in the West payed stream services like Spotify and AM are used to a high degree and youtube now has to compete with them

Can you watch videos on Spotify and other streaming services? And it all counts towards streaming? If so, what's its views and likes so far? I mean, I remember when JFAD's YT views were good but not outstanding and then the next day it was the most viewed trailer of the year and had been viewed over 167 million views in 24 hours because that was the views across all platforms. But where else are people watching videos other than YouTube? And why? YouTube lets you watch videos for free. Why did people stop? I mean, I don't get why people watch music anywhere other than YouTube. Artists put their entire album on the site for free, why go somewhere that you have to pay monthly rates?

Woman’s World 3.4M first day WE WONN

Maybe so but besting it by 400k isn't much of an achievement. Katy's lost almost all her fans, Gaga's so powerful right now with a current smash and yet she could only do a little bit better?

I do realise that. WW should've done better considering all the build up it had but it was by Katy, so it was never going to do much better than what it did. Gaga should've done better than just 400k more views and just under 100k extra likes. I'm not blaming her, I'm questioning the fans. Why don't they understand the importance of watching the video especially considering it helps towards chart position and virality and helping the YouTube algorithm suggestions?

As far as subscribers go, looking at it from that angle Gaga's performance would be much better, with just under 20% of "her subscribers" tuning in first 24 hours versus Katy with under 10%.

I would say that the fans ARE watching it, but only 5 views per account count per 24 hours, so each die hard fan streaming can only do so much. I would say a lot of her views came from the word of mouth and virality Katy's comeback initially had. Like I said, she was everywhere when it came out. If Katy's fans generate 1 million streams and GP generates 2.4 million, we're in an alternate situation most likely. The GP tuned in for her comeback but turned it off, whereas the GP is tuned into DWAS because of its virality and the stans are watching/streaming Disease.

People might be listening to DWAS, but that doesn't mean that while they're listening to it Spotify interrupts them and says "Gaga has another new song out too", that would be the artist and fans' job to create content that spreads awareness around her overall name and/or Disease directly. Like we need content of Gaga dancing to the song, BTS footage (GagaVision returning??), etc.. Her reposting fan's videos, fanart, etc. is a great start

I would argue Stupid Love did so well in its first 24 hours largely because of Gaga's social media activity preceding it: she was on a roll with viral tweets and relatable posts elsewhere 2019-2020 and then the day it dropped she got another one with "Earth is Cancelled" which prompted people to wonder why she would say that. I hope I'm making sense I feel like I just rambled :ladyhaha:

Mind you, WW had a day one bonus. People checked the song out with the video. All Disease’s extra day one hype went to spotify. The WW comparisons are bogus

This too, a lot of people who wanted to hear the song for the first time would've went straight to the video

The "just enjoy the music" army coming in 3, 2, 1...

I just don't want some of you repeat what you did during Joker 2: insulting everyone who told the truth that it might flop based on early reactions and many indicators, and then getting underwhelmed or suddenly quiet when the reality proved it.

I miss the days when YouTube had more viewers for music videos. I don't know what happened that shifted people away from them so much. It seems like these days the least impacted genre is kpop, and even that is lower than even as recently as 4 years ago.
