Interesting and kind of telling/purposeful that all of these extremely dark looks are on display in a very bright setting. I feel like that has to mean something. We’re used to darkga visuals being shot very dark, no? Am I reaching?

I thought the exact same thing. If the song is about mental illness / addiction etc. I feel like it’s about how horror exists in plain sight / in broad daylight. It’s certainly how I feel in terms of my own struggles

Do you all realize the talent that dropped tonight? She went from dark, old school, artistic in the Disease MV to old school classic in the DWAS performance. How many artists can do both and do it well? :firega:

Love the video, can some explain the suburban setting? I’m trying to connect the dots

Horror / pain in broad daylight / in plain sight. Not all demons are in the darkness, they exist in normal settings like suburbia - with people just driving by taking no notice

Upbeat doesn't generally apply in that context, but OK, in that case I'd say it sounds more bright

The secondary definition of upbeat is “cheerful and optimistic” tbf

Someone may have already mentioned this, but the version of her wearing flannel shirts could be a nod to ARTPOP—hopefully hinting at some ARTPOP influences in the album.

I know I’m probably gonna get warning points for not participating in groupthink and praising the video, but I’m sorry, I just didn’t live. I’m sad there isn’t a big choreographed dance sequence and the video felt sort of like a mash up of things we’ve already seen from her before, specifically John Wayne and You and I. And you know what, that’s okay. In my opinion, Gaga’s lead singles for the past couple albums (Perfect Illusion and Stupid Love) have not been the strongest work from her albums so I’m really looking forward to seeing what the rest of the album brings.

Just poor choice of words  I’ve always used upbeat as meaning more bright and cheerful :poot:

Huh

Dejare de quererte cuando un pintor sordo pinte el sonido de un pétalo al caer en el suelo de cristal de un castillo que no existe.

It's a great video, similar to 911, and a good break from the choreo vids like ROM, Stupid Love, Judas, BTW etc. (which are great too) I had to watch it a couple of times to somewhat get it, that's why I love her videos, they're so fun to study. My fav part is when the two versions of her start fighting.

While I really like the bight suburban cookie-cutter contrast with the dark theme, the brightness makes the cinematography harder to pull off in scenes like when wind blows around her and the walls move towards her. The rawness of her acting in general, the fighting scene, and when she runs away from the car are so well done, that they make those two scenes look not as professional as they could be, since the set is so bright.

  • rinasawachanta changed the title to 🖤 Disease's MV is not a return to old-school Gaga, it's a totally novel approach
