I love this song, the announcement was phenomenal, the teasers got me hyped. Gaga knocked it out of the park on this one, I have no idea where all this negativity around chart performance and streaming numbers and fan service came from. Thank you for saying this lol I’m glad I'm not alone, I think the rollout and everything has been great, literally the only disappointment is fan’s negativity. Not to be dramatic but I think I need to get off social media, little monsters always create some negative to all of her releases when it doesn’t go 100% like they hope it does. She’s clearly passionate about her current work, so let’s just enjoy it and let her handle the rest See The Best In Everyone 1

Wasn’t really a conventional Top 40 “pop” fan before Gaga and she was the first pop star I fell in love with for those reasons. IMO, there are so many other pop stars doing the clean, danceable stuff that I think it’s actually very exciting and refreshing to see her do something edgier. Valid points, I do think her going in edgy direction is exciting too. Trouble is, Diesease is just not that groundbreaking. Sonically it peaks to few new areas for Gaga, but overall it is not extremely daring. And the lyrics…Stupi love tier tbh

Let’s give her time and be patient A great song from A-lister does not need time to be well received. This gives me such strong 2016 vibes to when we were in the exact same conversations regarding perfect illusion.
Arcanum 4,995
I, on the other hand, love when she growls and hate when she sounds bubblegum. She is a versatile artist and she is not supposed to appeal to the same group each time. That's why she evolves. Some fans will leave along the way, some will stay, new ones will appear. Artistic evolution is not something that we can either understand or evaluate because we are the receptors and cannot dictate the way the artist should be. Especially an artista like Gaga. You refer Joanne. Joanne, while stripped down, was still a shocker exactly because everyone thought something extravagant was on the way (original LG5). Jazz was and still is her refuge. The genre is timeless and she is a pro at it. What I consistently notice about this fanbase is that we are quick to call her a flop (happened with BR, happened with Shallow, happened with DWAS). She has proven that when she wants to ascend to the top of the charts, she knows the way. She survived the industry for a long time. She even told us to trust the process. She wrote the poem for the monsters. She warned us. But here we are again! Some of us don't stan Gaga. We stan the way we want Gaga. But the truth is she will never be the way we want her, simply because she is better when she is herself. So let's start showing respect to her craft and exclude our expectations from our perception of love for her. I Wantth your Love...I Wantth your Love. 1

What would you say the difference is between how you perceive those songs is? Is it strictly the vocal delivery? I don’t want to add anymore negativity to this song so I won’t go into detail and this will be the last time I speak badly of it. It isn’t so much the abrasiveness that turns me away. I love Judas, BTW, BM, Scheiße, Aura, Replay, so I’m definitely here for DarkGa. The 3 snippets that were teased seem to be in the same vein as the aforementioned songs. Gaga has always been able to balance commercial pop and the experimental wonderfully. Not too generic but also not too niche. With Disease, for me at least, the song starts out strong but doesn’t go anywhere so it leaves me feeling a bit exhausted by the end, like Stupid Love. I think it’s really just a personal preference thing. I’ve also never been able to connect with her lead singles since BR (Applause, PI, Shallow, SL), so I don’t worry. And look how Shallow turned out. Overall, it’s just a cute bop and not so bad that I consider it a skip. She’s not going to be able to please everybody and that’s ok too. Gaga always explores different sounds so she has something for everybody. The last thing I want is for her to stop evolving like Katy Perry. I feel fantastic. She just released her best song in over a decade and is finally about to drop the album I’ve wanted most from her. I know this site isn’t a big Ed Sheeran fan, but look it his song Bad Habits, it was met with a very weak reaction in terms of streams and fan and critic responses, but over a few months it grew to become one of the 5 biggest hits of his career. In the streaming age we have this idea of instant gratification and if it isn’t the biggest thing on day one then it’s a disappointment, and that’s just not reality. Disease is an amazing song getting amazing responses from critics, it’s her biggest solo debut on Spotify, this negativity feels like it’s coming from nowhere. RochestrMonstr 2,470
My opinion: People keep grilling the hell out of Joanne because they don’t like PI. But PI does not sound like Joanne!

PartySick 146,016
There is no "situation" just y'all being a mess I'm starting to regret my decision to return to ggd before the album itself came out 'cause I could have been bopping to Disease without all this drama invading my eyes 4

tlittlemonster 464
I agree with a lot of points here (e.g. she doesn't seem to enjoy as much releasing pop albums, she lost some of that fire to promote the hell out of a project and make it as successful as possible) However, I disagree about Disease. I think it's such a smash song - it's amazing sonically, great vocals and quite addictive (yes, lyrics are basic and it's not super ground breaking) but it received a lot of good support from both fans and critics

Agreed that the lyrics are definitely the weakest point, but I think the delivery/passion carries them over the finish line for me.
