Gaga is just the only one around rn who can convincingly do dark pop. Every other pop star rn is doing a more lightweight throwback vibe, so people are desperate to have another taste of the bizarro, emotionally cathartic Gaga ride, and she is smart to reinvest in it.

Ngl I feel like part of it is just timing. ARTPOP came at the point that chart success for pop was diminishing and we started seeing the rise of trap beats, bedroom acts etc

Disease by contrast has come at a time where club ready pop & traditional pop are having a resurgence.
