2School4Cool 5,964
I can’t help but feel like the recent love that’s been shown for ARTPOP has helped with the reception to Disease. ARTPOP has had a major resurgence and its anniversary was showered with praise. But the same reasons ARTPOP wasn’t initially successful are the reason Disease has received such acclaim. ARTPOP was criticized because it was experimental, the harsh electronic sounds were too much for the GP. However, Disease is being praised for being a return to form, for being experimental, bold, unique, chaotic. It’s like the GP and critics have finally gained enough trust in Gaga to let her do her thing and embrace the fact that she’s creating something unique EDIT: maybe I should rephrase, I don’t think this single has anything to do with ARTPOP, but the public definitely seems to be embracing her experimental side more in recent years Edited October 27 by 2School4Cool See The Best In Everyone 5 1 1

It went number 1 on iTunes, major websites were writing reviews about how they were wrong with their initial judgements of ARTPOP, YouTube channels were making think-pieces about the era, DJWS teased the idea of ARTPOP Act II, we even got Gaga herself to acknowledge it. It feels like it finally got recognition as the cult classic that it is, and I’m just saying I think this (plus the success of Bloody Mary and other BTW songs) helped shift public perception of some of Gaga’s more experimental work, and as a result, she has the freedom to release an experimental song like Disease and have the reception be glowing and positive. Idk does that make sense? I know I’m kinda rambling lol See The Best In Everyone
moonsago 6,518
I think it’s more due to people simply missing her doing… her. And we saw that with Born This Way having this incredible longevity. It’s a mixture of things though, I think people are also tired of the musical trends of the past 4-5ish years, they crave something heavier and more exciting ( I think Brat although very different to Disease, still reinforces my point ), people missing early 2010s music wise but also because life seemed simpler and they’re looking for escapism, popstars are also lowkey boring too, like look at how the public is eating up the Chappell meal comparing her to Gaga’s debut just cause she wears some ‘crazier’ costumes… You can look at this from so many angles, but what I’m thinking and hoping is that she is yet again, just like in her earlier days ahead of something, on the brink of impacting music & pop culture in a meaningful way. We know she is a trend setter, whatever she does, the industry is always keeping an eye out and 1-2 years later everybody is doing what she did with her previous album but this feels different, it feels major, bigger than a trend. I hope I am right but we’ll see. Edited October 27 by moonsago

ShayCristoforo 10,511
Yes, with all of her work, she’s proven that she’s a powerful artist. That truth can’t be denied or downplayed anymore. Get the pinot ready, because it's turtle time.
HermesGr 1,136
For BOLD artists the audience are dying to turn them down and then to rise them again. Gaga is that artist for the GP. Look also not only her Harlequin but the ARTPOP. Its a circle. And a circus 😅 Also, the song is 🔥 Edited October 27 by HermesGr
