No shade to Joanne but I was not mentally prepared for that kind of journey. :vegas:

its decent

its not bad romance level but for us fans i think its good

unfortunately i think the GPs over gagas pop material. they wanna hear ASIB/DWAS type of music that shows off her talent. i do not see this charting well at all - i hope im wrong but it sounds like a promo single to me and not lead single material. with each listen it grows on me, and its more interesting sonically and vocally than anything on todays radio, but its not exactly smash hit material, more like a deep cut that her harcore fans will love

The GP is here for her pop music if it's good, unique, and different. Let's not forget that many of the "deep cuts" in BTW got a resurgence over the past year or so. I don't think "safer" music (which is what Stupid Love/Chromatica was) resonates with what people want to see from Gaga. Also, with TikTok and stuff, what is "smash hit material" now is not what it was back then. It's hard to predict that stuff.

And as a side note, I think trying to expect Bad Romance-levels of good is putting your expectations at a really high place. BR is one of Gaga's best songs. Casually saying "Yeah, but it's not BR" feels weird when that's such a high bar to reach. Consistently expecting her new songs to be her new magnum opus is setting yourself up for disappointment. Disease didn't need to be "Bad Romance" good, and I don't think it was trying to be. It's good on its own.

Report sis!

People are allowed to have negative thoughts but if it's overwhelming and clear annoyance they can take a weekend vacation

I would say neutral. I liked it but I think it will definitely grow on me.

the thing is that the song is missing a climax for me, a higher point or bridge that catches you. I look forward to the video (which I don’t know why it didn’t premiere simultaneously) and am excited to hear what’s next

I know that to formulate any kind of criticism at a time like this, when a narrative of widespread acclaim has unfolded, is almost a sin. But if I were a sinner, you could make me believe (lol). That said, here my honest opinion:

It would have definitely benefited A LOT from being released in conjunction with the video. As it is, without the video, it feels a bit stripped down. There's something about the phrasing of the opening verses, a certain repetitive cadence that reminds me of the formula that her lead singles have been adopting since, at least, Perfect Illusion. I feel like it works better as a rock song than this hybrid with electronic/dance elements that appear “industrial” but lack thickness and depth. I would have preferred a base more inspired by NIN, INXS or Depeche Mode... Something more interesting. Instead, we got something closer to Kim Petras or Ava Max (as far as the segments where the instrumentation is more clearly visible are concerned, I don't want to be misunderstood). In the other hand, the vocal delivery and vocal production is AMAZING. Plus, I'm sure it's going to be CRAZY live. It's as if she had said “I want to do this song, with these lyrics and sung this way... oh! and add some base that the gays are going to eat up”. I don't know, I feel it lacks references. Come on Gaga, you're already an established grown artist, you could use a little more complex, richer references. Something a little more risky, that's all. That said, I'm really looking forward to the video and to hearing what's to come. I think LG7 is going to be a great album.

This is what I kept thinking of :ladyhaha: I really liked it. It sounds fresh and different yet it still has that dark/weird quality that only Gaga has. I’m really loving it so far. Cant’t wait for the visuals.

I love the song. And whether you love it or not, you can't deny this sound is GAGA. It sounds like old GAGA.

Easily in her Top 3 of lead singles with Bad Romance & Just Dance. A new classic and it needs to be a HIT

at first it was not what i was craving, i thought it would be a faster kind of song. but then it really grew a lot on me. i’m just in awe. the production is very much what i was expecting, i didn’t want any minimalist production. the sort of rocky vocals was everything, she’s very much in command, giving me dom vibes. i really love the lyrics in the context of the production of the song. i’m very very pleased. it was not what i wanted but it is what i needed. and on that note, that’s exactly why an artist shouldn’t try to bend so much to the crowd’s expectations. she’s the artist, she should damn well follow her guts

Hard disagree. These kinds of melodies are still very pop (which is what this song is) and plays off well with the electronic elements imo.

It grew on me. When I play it, I can't wait for the "ahhh" moment before the first and second verse, and I have to show 1, 2, and 3 on my fingers while she sings "lay you down like 1-2-3"
