I don’t know what some of y’all are listening to but this is my favorite Gaga lead since Applause(and I have very high regard for Perfect Illusion.)

That “ahhhhhah” before each line in the pre chorus is so damn addictive. I think I’ve streamed it 200+ times already.

I mean, I respect your opinion but…

“I want your ugly

I want your disease

What’s the “point of view” exactly?

disinhibition in love and the desire to have and live with the worse parts of a person as long as it liberates them, the point of view is in the whole song, you just have to read it with a more analytic and sensible mindset, it is certainly not a typical point of view on love, it veers more in sadomasochistic themes and sensibilities
The same thing is in Disease, or in the songs where she relies heavily in artifice and satire from The Fame and ARTPOP, It's just frustrating to see people take everything she does at the utmost face value, not even trying, more in here when they are supposedly fans lol....

I know that, thanks, I actually feel like I’m the only one who gets Disease’s lyrical depth lmao

Here’s my honest review of Disease after listening to it quite a lot since it came out. Tbh i struggled a bit with this as I feel like we still don’t really know much about this song (in the inspo, about the lyrics, why/how she chose to work with Watt & Cirkut, musical direction, etc.) so that would undoubtedly affect my review …Gaga has remained pretty much silent (and I think it has been her team posting on her social channels rather than her personally) and wish we got to hear about her talking about the song from her firsthand.

Production 8/10

- great but messy / mixing and mastering isn’t quite right at the end

- Nothing super innovative though, but this is probably the most radio/commercial-friendly song on the album that her label picked given it’s the lead single

- Love the rock/metal tinge - wish is went a bit darker, used more minor chord progressions

- expected maybe a bit more from Watt x Cirkut, but excited for what’s to come

- quite a bold choice in today’s pop climate so i admire that

Vocals 9/10

- her play on the vocal delivery and layering (you can hear a “demonic” voice in the background) when she sings the verses is so good

- The “ah-ahs” are a nice touch and i believe carry the song - love the contrast between the softers ahs and the harder production

- The vocal delivery and ad libs in the outro is my fave part of the song

- would love to hear her scream more/do more screamo/metal vocals

- she does say in an interview it’s different from how she sang on Chromatica - i’m not sure how it is

Melody 7.5/10

- catchy, but wasn’t quite memorable at first listen

- Had to listen to it a few times to really get into it

- feels a bit boxy in the verses and repetitive after the 3 minute mark, so glad she changed it up for the outro (my fave part)

Lyrics 6/10

- this is the weakest point in the song unfortunately as i know she can do much better - but we know this is made to appeal to the masses so it feels watered down slightly and fit to be easy to remember/sing along to

- “lay me down like 1 2 3” is cringe tbh

- the lyrics in the bridge should be different from the chorus as it gets quite repetitive after about 3 mins

- I do love the consistent theme of disease though and using interesting words like ‘antidote’ in a song

Overall 7.5/10

- still a really good/solid single for Gaga - my favourite since Bad Romance (whilst they are not bad songs, she/her label has notoriously picked terrible choices for her lead singles, although Stupid Love might just be a bad song, ahem, there i said it!)

- Wish there was a bit more of a darker, harder push - felt a bit watered down for the GP - wish we could hear what Gaga had originally intended

- Would be good to know more about the inspo behind the song and perhaps the visuals/interview will help

- Despite not being my fave Gaga song released this year (Die With A Smile is legendary), it makes me now REALLY excited for the rest of the album! If this is just a taste of what’s to come, then i’m really looking forward to the slayage. I’m really hoping for some darker production, rock/metal (rather than EDM) songs, and much more introspective lyrics!

I’m not asking this in a shady way but have you never heard the phrase “like 123” before? It just means something is easy to accomplish/a simply achieved goal. She’s not saying it’s a 3 step process, she’s saying dominating the person she’s singing about is easy. Maybe that’s an American centric turn of phrase, but I’ve heard it all my life.

It could have another meaning (though similar in context) of like in wrestling you “lay someone down” (pin them to the mat) and you win on a count of 3. But that again just means to easily dominate them. I think she’s meaning the former as it’s a common saying here but either works fine and conveys the same message.

Of course I've heard that but it's always said to refer to a 3 step process in my experience, each number is meant to help you remember which order you do things in. Yes, it is more of an American thing to use it as a reference to anything easy, most obvious media frame of reference is ABC by The Jackson Five. The more I listen, the less it bugs me, though. I guess it's a cultural thing and I'm used to adapting to American culture all the time with the entertainment I consume and I think the whole world has to as well with how much new American slang we're confronted with now that we have to navigate in modern songs.

it's also normal to count upwards... at least I know both ways

(like when people get Anesthesia it's also common to count from 1 to 20 for example and not just the other way around)

and also when kids play hide and seek they count from 1 to whatever number until they start..

It's just a matter of how those around you did it, clearly. I think I'm just someone who just gets annoyed when I think there was a better way a lyric could have been said. For Stupid Love, I still sing "I want just to be loved, loved" because that's what I thought I heard, it sounded right to me and it sounded like something I'd say. If I change it to "lay you down nice and easy" I will start to think those are the real lyrics for sure!

what don't you like about it? just curious

The effects put on her voice and the vocals layering made her sound like 100% Miley Cyrus to me :cryga:

Every time I listened to it yesterday I saw Miley's face singing in my head. Literally no Gaga in the song at all.

It was so frustrating :bradley:

Today after listening to the song for the 50th time I like it a lot more, but I still have to focus to imagine that Gaga is the one singing it.

It was the weirdest experience with a Gaga song in my life :enigma:

maybe its because you havent listen to a lot of female rock vocalists and your only point of reference is Miley? cause to me she doesn't sound like miley here at all, to me it gives borderline Maria Brink and Wendy O. Wlliams...

I honestly really like it and have listened to it a bunch already.

This is the best song she's released in a while for me personally.
