I’m not saying it’s perfect, I'm just saying that it not being appreciated today doesn’t mean it isn’t good. The Shining was hated back in the day. Blade Runner, Fight Club, 2001, all seen as cult classics now but hated and disregarded in their day. Joker 2 will have its moment to shine, it just won’t be today. The argument of it will have its shine in the future usually apply to artistic work the are misunderstood and ahead of its time. This movie is not misunderstood or ahead of its time, its just a movie that doesnt know its own audience.

I use RT all the time, and for years. The audience is almost always higher than the critics score. Because people usually enjoy movies. Critics score 33% (295+ verified ratings) , Audience score 31% (2500+ verified ratings) This isn't a bunch of Katy Kats coming for Lady Gaga. This is a movie that the general audiences are not enjoying. When you read the reviews, people are not blaming Gaga. If anything they say she was under utilised and too restrained. I kind of wonder what is wrong with people who get their egos tied up in charts and reviews and ratings. It’s completely being misunderstood online, and the idea that art must cater to an audience isn’t art, it’s commercialism. I can't be free if my hands are tied... 🧟♀️👰🏻

Between Marvel fans that hate DC, DC comic book purists that are frustrated that it didn’t follow the Batman mythos, pop stan wars(those who hate Gaga and those who were only watching for Gaga), people who hate musicals that didn’t like the sequences, and musical fans that weren’t satisfied with enough sequences. I think there is enough cross section of rabid fans for this film to be hated on with little relation to the actual quality.
