I feel like scenes weren't removed so much as they were changed to be less flamboyant and more dramatic or dark to set a contrast with the delusion scenes. For example, the scene of Harley singing "That's Entertainment" on the stairs before the cops rush down behind her is technically present, it's just much darker and eerie rather than loud and almost comical. The scene where she kisses a woman in front of the court house was probably exchanged either for her solo song walking in or the scene where she crashes a press briefing. In the final cut she only meets him on the stairs with this haircut once and basically rejects him and they go separate ways. What was this scene where she's looking so smug in an elevator? I feel like a lot of context was lost here. Was she supposed to wreck him and then leave him while looking all smug? But they went for a more melancholic ending. I feel like they took a lot of the 'crazy' away from the character. I was waiting for a scene where Gaga really lets loose but she was just too calm and calculated. I feel like there were so many good ideas but just none of them.. popped? Idek even how to explain it. It's like they didn't show us or make us feel anything about what was going on, things just kinda happened, and we were left to piece together the storyline and context in real-time, while also being confused about 'is this really happening or in his head?' and 'I think this is the point of this scene but I'm not sure?' I know everyone is probably saying this but I really wish this movie were centered around Harley and showed her descent into madness, much like the first film did with Joker, and he was more of a side character. Or even just 50/50 screen time. That could've been SUCH a good movie. Imagine the movie introducing her and her life and showing the things that triggered her to go off the rails like the first movie did with Arthur, but it cuts back and fourth between what he's experiencing (the story of Joker FAD) and her 'origin story', and the random musical scenes actually felt like they added to the scenes, maybe it would cut in and out of them talking to each other in real life and the fantasy scenes creating juxtaposition, they could have their own singing in the background while they're talking in the dim grey scenes and the lyrics match up with their conversation, the cuts could've really popped with the crescendos of the music but they just didn't. At the very least it could've shown more of what was going on on her side of the story so it was easier to follow, instead of just having an info dump every now and again in bland dialogue, but then questioning if it's even real because 1. she's a liar and 2. some of the scenes are his fantasies. Expand Reveal hidden contents I do remember noticing that at the time, but again it just felt confusing because if that scene was representing her betraying him, why was it shown in full at the start of the film and then only kind of.. alluded to at the end when she actually betrays him. I understood it but it just fell flat like 'oh yeah we already saw that'. It wasn't surprising or had any impact. I get that it could've been foreshadowing at the start but it didn't feel like that to me either I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin. Expand Reveal hidden contents That is true about the betrayal part but the steps where Harley finishes 'That's entertainment' with the cops surrounding them would have been a better way to set up the gunshot scene again. He absolutely did not need to be stabbed in the asylum again to reprise the gunshot fantasy imo. His ultimate undoing had nothing to do with Harley for that to be the big wrap up scene for his mind.
