M i K E Y 7,287
The thing is we never know. If the film became a critical acclaimed masterpiece after the premiere we would assume that she knew it would take off and ride the hype. Now that it’s mostly mid to negative reviews it’s easy to think she saw it coming and planned beforehand. Any theory makes sense and cannot be ruled out. I do think they have any scenario in mind. It was a risky project after all. NO DUCT TAPE - NO MISSON
StrawberryBlond 13,984
She definitely wanted her mark made on all those songs as a soloist for sure. She knew they were getting cut down in the movie and not living up to their full potential and she couldn't sing them in exactly the way she'd like either. It also provided a little something for the fans who aren't interested in a film and just want the album. I'm sure she we would've had this album regardless. I'm curious - I didn't watch all the way to the end of the credits, so for anyone who did, did Happy Mistake appear? Because rules for what can be submitted as best original song at the Oscars are very strict and say the song must either feature in the movie or appear in the first 2 minutes of the credits. She wanted that song out there as it was very personal to her as it is her life story rather than Harley's. And as she saw Folie A Deux was being cut right down to the point where you'd completely gloss over it, she wanted that put out into the world in full as well. Putting them on an album was the only way to do it so she thought she may as well go the whole hog and do a bunch of jazz covers that suited the film along with it to perhaps get some Grammy nominations out of it. Hey, it worked for Beyonce (who won Grammys for her companion album) why not her? She was very smart about this, I'm so proud that she fought with all her might to give this project all she could given the circumstances. 2

All great artists have flops here and there. Nothing out of the ordinary. I think Gaga is handling the whole Joker situation very well, with Harlequin and everything. except everyone on social media is saying her/the musical aspect ruined the film the critics liked her but the movie watchers are not happy also Gaga isnt as good of an actress as meryl so theres not really a fair comparison Edited October 7 by Monstermilo

But actually, it didn't reach its threshold to break even - it had a $75 million budget and as a movie should make about 2.5x its budget to break even, it would've have to make at least $187 million and it only made $153 million. And it's not getting dragged more than any other film this year. Madame Web has been the most derided of the year - $100 million gross on a $80 million budget, just 11% positive reviews with an average rating of 3.4/10 and a 26 on Metacritic. Audiences polled gave it a C on average but that's mainly because so many were watching it for the sheer campiness and "so bad it's good" factor. Dakota Johnson herself distanced herself from it and basically mocked it. And that's a comic book adaption into the bargain. JFAD already out-grossed that film's entire gross in its opening weekend. It's nowhere near close to the most derided movie of its kind. There will also be other films that I can't even think of that will make up the worst nominees list at next year's Razzies. Winnie The Pooh: Blood and Honey came out last year and it had a 3% positive rating with 2.2/10 and a 16 on Metacritic. It also won all 5 of its Razzies. I think some perspective is needed here.

Folie A Deux also looks like it won't stand a chance of a nom either considering it was present for all of 20 seconds in the movie and was barely noticeable. At this rate, Hildur's going to be lucky to get so much as a nom for best score this time around, least of all a win since the score seemed inconsequential this time compared to how it framed the entire first movie. Let's hope the Grammys pick up the slack.

People are still super curious about seeing the film … don’t believe the hate-hype train too much as it’s bad for your brain. I'd say that her character appears for at least 1 hour through the hole movie, from start to finish.

I feel She's seasoned, connected, and experienced enough to smell a post production/internal mess from afar. If some of us here could see the cracks early on then I'm sure she could too. If Gaga was confident in this project she would never schedule another solo project so soon after the movie drops. neither would she release an "accompanying" album before the movie release when the movie has a soundtrack of its own. Imagine her dropping music during ASIB rollout akin to die with a smile. She was completely invested in that and every appearance she made during that era except enigma was dedicated to promoting ASIB. I havnt seen the movie yet because I'm disappointed at the amount of screen time she has. and i don't care what anybody says, that was not only a stupid move but very deceptive promotion. I'm happy but not surprised that once again her acting is being praised despite a subpar script. They need to stop wasting this woman's talent. Bradley really deserves his flowers for knowing what was best for the movie and prioritizing that. Honestly go see the movie, Gaga’s in it waaaaaaay more than I thought she was based on what everyone was saying. She’s honestly in it throughout the whole movie, sure some scenes were cut, but I think *most* of them honestly could’ve damaged this film more Tiktok: owenbybush
CosmixSunshine 63
This was a strategic move. If the single were to flop, her team could blame it on the movie and the single coming out together in the same month. If it were to be a success, her team could say the movie gave her the perfect spotlight for her music to shine. It’s a win-win situation. Her total screen time is 34 minutes, and several of those scenes she’s not even talking but rather sitting as an extra in the courthouse. You can absolutely feel her presence in the scenes, but lets not act like the film would fall completely apart without her
