Stan culture has fostered competitiveness and an insecurity amongst fans who then project these intense expectations to their favorite artist to keep their position in the echelon. There's nothing wrong with an artist who values the charts and wants to be on top of their industry in that measurable sense, but if that isn't a priority of Gaga (and even if it was), we should try our best to compartmentalize commercial success and our ability to enjoy the art she's created because it's worth celebrating. Among lots of nonsense and meltdowns spread around GGD, I find refreshing to read sometimes mature, heartfelt and well-chosen home truths like these.
