I feel like I watched a different film to other people. Like, it has issues for sure, but overall I thought it was really interesting and entertaining.

I do think this’ll be a film that - after all the hype and drama dies down in a few years - people will rewatch and appreciate more and more.

No way does it deserve the score it’s getting.

Grace Randolph thinks Gaga should take a long break from acting after this because unfortunately it will be hard for her to get another big movie unless she produces and raises the money herself. Geez. wtf  :traumatica:

i think this is a very dumb assessment - people are annoyed Gaga was underused, the GP knows her skill set and wants to see her succeed in a film!

i don't think she'll have trouble getting another film, but i do think shifting to LG7 for a bit and going full popstar mode again will be a great switch up for her. i think she's ready too, tbh. just based on the way she's talked about her new music coming up.

This movie could have been in another way. Less musical, more action and not so just random in a way… There is absolutely nothing wrong with Gaga’s acting or performance, she did more than great, its just the movie itself. 2.5/5.

I watched it today at IMAX and Brazil, I'm devastated. There were so many pace problems, and undevelopment story arc for Lee and too many songs, too little backstory. This movie could have the first 15 minutes, and last 20 minutes (after boom) and that's enough. Harlequin tells the story much better then the movie and that's something. I rate the first movie as 8/10 and 4 for the sequel and I'm being generous.

The cinematography was great, images are fab, actors played well. Todd you're the enemy.

what’s REALLY interesting to me is that the movie come out today in the US and it has been radio silence from her. Not a tweet, not an IG post or story post, not a ticket link… nothing.

omg I didn't even realize that...

I mean, she must know that the film is being received poorly. I hope that she's not too hard on herself for it though. She put a lot of time and effort into it—even going as far as to create a companion album—so clearly the movie means a lot to her. One of the bright spots in the film is her performance, so I hope she holds her head high for that.

Just come out of my local cinema in Italy and uhm... I'm kinda confused. In my group of friends 2 of them fell asleep, the others were disappointed, my boyfriend did actually like it a lot and I'm kinda unsure.

I think Gaga's character is a vehicle more for the hype sorrounding the movie than for the story itself (if that makes sense). I mean, the story is uninspired.

Kinda think the meaning of it all is that Joker is no man, but a concept (if I understood well the finale).

It's polarizing and it lacks of pacing and storytelling. But i think we'll appreciate it more once we digest it (i guess?:saladga:).

Well... I didn't like It. Gaga is good, I would even say effortlessly good, but the character is... Uhm... There are a lot of holes in Harley character.

Is a movie that bites way more that It can chew, and honestly the musical numbers are... MEH, and It takes a lot of "talent" to make foegettable musical numbers having Gaga as an asset. DWAS MV is way more enjoyable, and has been shot with way more passion than any number in the movie.

Joker 2 is not terrible, is not the worst movie I've seen this year, it's simply a wasted oportunity, is just meh.

Just got back from the cinema. No words. Gaga was phenomenal. I wanted to cry at the end but I was in genuine shock, still am. Mind blown. :bradley: I absolutely loved it.

Chromatica will live on forever.

Just came back from the teather. The hate is exaggerated and so unnecessary to me, because the movie itself is not bad at all. I agree with Harley's character being a bit underexolored and that there's a little going on story-wise, but I didn't find it boring and both Gaga and Phoenix did an amazing job. The cinematography is good and the musical aspect works. Could they cut out a couple of numbers? Yes, but to say that this is trash and a whole flop is insane. In other words, not a masterpiece but not a razzie either.

Warning: this is my own opinion, you're allowed to hate this movie all you want.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a film more perplexing to me than this. I tried to avoid as many reviews as I could going into it, but I was still well, well aware of how much people were hating it - GP, Critics, Gaga fans alike.

And yet, genuinely, for most of the film I sat there completely invested - mostly feeling like I was watching a different film to what I had heard described. And yet, at the same time, I could also completely understand why people could hate a film like this. It’s deeply bleak and risky in its choices, it unabashedly commits to being an experimental musical, and it doesn’t move the plot along very much at all. It also seems to be unsure of what ending / message it wanted to convey (feels like there were multiple endings they toyed with before going with what they went with).

And yet I still couldn’t take my eyes off of it.

I genuinely feel this film will only be appreciated many, many years from now. And for reasons that we won’t really be able to understand now.

But I’m still very torn. Ugh.

Honestly, the only reason I even somewhat enjoyed the movie was because Gaga was in it, and I’m sure a lot of fans here can relate.

If she hadn’t been, I would’ve been way more critical—just like the average viewer.

The plot was dull and practically nonexistent, but seeing her act and perform so well made it more enjoyable. The dream sequences were sooooo good.

I just wish more fans here would admit their personal bias, because the movie does have plenty of flaws.

Side note: it’s pretty rare for both audiences AND critics to agree on ratings (33% and 36% on RT respectively), which definitely says something… I just cant believe it tbh

Because they can’t express their emotions properly or articulate the real issues with the movie.

The flaws were in the script and editing, but to their simple minds, a strong female lead and some singing make it “woke.”

Instead of addressing real problems, they latch onto that.

It’s just misdirected hate. It’s easier for them to blame “wokeness” than try to understand the film’s actual flaws.

Was the implication of the scene where Arthur is assaulted by the guards at Arkham and stripped naked outside our view that he was being sexually assaulted?
