Grace Randolph thinks Gaga should take a long break from acting after this because unfortunately it will be hard for her to get another big movie unless she produces and raises the money herself. Geez. wtf  :traumatica:

That is such nonsense from her. Say what you want about the movie, but Gaga is undoubtedly fantastic in it.

Plenty of huge actors appear in divisive or disliked movies and continue to have thriving careers.

The dramatics around the wider response to the film are toooooo much - she’ll be able to take any acting job she wants.

(Not directed at you by the way, just a reaction to that Grace’s dumb comment)

Halle Berry legit won Worst Actress at the Razzies (and attended no less) and she still had hits after that. Gaga is nowhere near in need of a “break” she’s released 3 movies in 6 years 💀 if anything she should try to do something more adventurous that doesn’t involve music or anything remotely Gaga related (fashion, music, eccentric personalities, Diva worship etc) as her next project. Maybe a serious drama or a RomCom.

That’s a ridiculous take. ASIB and HOG were both commercial successes. Her performance in FAD is great, and if this uneven film ultimately turns a buck they will have her to thank for it

She's saying Gaga will take a big break as if her acting career isn't 1 movie every 3 years :icant:

Sky del Blue

Just cam back from the theater. As a Gaga fan, this is very dissappointing. I don't know why she would chose this srcipt. The movie is so bland half of my theater were on their phone and there were even some people who left after about an hour.

What hurts the most is what this film could’ve been

Yeah this is what hurts. Gaga was born for this role and invested much of her time and energy into it. It should have been a knockout.

I get that we're supposed to be positive, but I'm gonna be a little sad this week about what could have been. We're allowed to be disappointed for a day before we get back on our horses.

The way its getting mixed reviews even on gagadaily...

I went to see it today and I’m disappointed ☹️ movie was flat and kinda boring. Unnecessary extension to the first movie. I’m glad we have Harlequin album though, because she sounds great, but the music in the movie was made intentionally bad, so it didn’t help. Plus for the concept of psychotic musical and acting but overall I would say 4/10

they might say that we're crazy, but i’m just in ❤️ with u

Well, I just watched the film, and... :franminervini:. I mean, it's not a terrible movie, honestly. I just don't see what's the point of calling it "Joker", and including Harley Quinn in it, if the actual characters in the film are only VAGUELY inspired by them.

As a Batman film, this was terrible, just like the first film. As a stand alone film about a mentally challenged man, it's an interesting production. That's really all I have to say about it.

Gaga was good in it. The movie would've benefited GREATLY from giving her more screentime.

Agree. I just came back from watching it and, even though I broadly enjoyed it, I can’t help feeling unsatisfied as a DC fan that this had the potential to be an amazing JokerXHarley film but it just wasn’t

My only guess is that the director wanted to send a message, to all the "sigma" males who glorified the first film, with this sequel. Which, whatever, fine, but if he actually commited to ~legitimately~ making a Harley/Joker film, it would've been a better movie. Like, sure, you can dunk on the incels, but you also lost the chance to tell a great story, with two great characters.

Objectively I don't think it's a "bad" film. The acting is good, the writing is ok, etc. But it's very difficult not to see it as wasted potential. Specially because Gaga seemed very convincing as an evil take on Harley Quinn (a lot more so than Margot Robbie, in my opinion).

They could've made a GREAT film about two iconic villains, but instead they gave us a... morally acceptable story. Which, ok, but the first option would've been more fun.

Yes, all of this :applause: definitely get the feeling that Todd wanted to steer completely away from what the first film created.

Maybe I set my sights too high being a huge fan of Christopher Nolan’s trilogy, but damn I feel like we missed out on potentially the best ever portrayal of Harley on screen (I don’t like Margot’s version 🙈). I still enjoyed Gaga, but it could have been so much more! The film didn’t have much excitement at all, it just kinda tore the first one down lol

A week before the film's premiere at Cannes, I had a dream that it was released and to everyone’s shock, it was terrible. I woke up thinking, "Well, that’s not going to happen. With a budget like that, an incredible cast, and Todd Phillips at the wheel, it’s pretty much impossible." Fast forward to the night I walked out of the theater, and to my surprise, my friends, along with most of the audience, were saying just how bad it was. Personally, I found the film’s message super interesting, but I couldn't help feeling disappointed by its execution. The film had a lot of potential, but I feel like it failed to communicate its ideas effectively. Gaga was great, though.

what’s REALLY interesting to me is that the movie came out today in the US and it has been radio silence from her. Not a tweet, not an IG post or story post, not a ticket link… nothing.
