I listened to it about 100 times today. It is definitely music that will appeal to mature adults. I think it will also appeal to fans of stronger rock or so-called 'classics'. But it's still really in Gaga style with these hooks and theatrics. That women can do anything

I think it's less how she is singing and more how its produced. There are little differences in her phrasing and pronunciation that are more Broadway like, but it sounds like it was recorded how they would a cast recording for a musical. Its not necessarily less polished, they just want it to sound live and that it was possibly done in one take. Her vocals sound a bit more raw which is better for a character to be more obvious- like a musical. 

If people aren't used to musical recordings, I could see them being a bit startled by it because it is definitely different than any of her pop releases. 

Ja, I see that. She also said tho in interviews time and time again that it was an adjustment for her to „unlearn“ proper technique since her character isn’t a trained singer.
