StrawberryBlond 13,985 Posted October 3 Share Posted October 3 I was away when this was announced and got released so I was experiencing it on the go and am fully appreciating it now. My ultimate favourites are The Joker, Happy Mistake, Oh When The Saints and If My Friends Could See Me Now. It's crazy that The Joker is from a 1964 musical, it was really ahead of its time, clearly. The way she transforms it into a punky rock song is so cool. Her voice sounds amazing and it really is such a high quality project, even on the songs I'm not as keen on, and there aren't many of those. I don't get the middling critic reviews, they've always been weirdly meh about her non-studio albums apart from ASIB. I don't get it as she always choose songs that are widely beloved and sings them well, so why the lukewarm reviews? They related the songs a lot to the world of Joker and Harley. I love the album even more now. One of the best bodies of work she has done. "Good Morning", for example, is a song about enjoying your time so much with someone you end up staying up late until morning. It's a peppy love song. On Harlequin, they almost completely turned the song around lyrically to make it a song about life in Arkham. [Verse 1] Oh, on that day they called my name I took a breath and then I prayed Oh, how I want to sing with the angels When the saints do their parade [Verse 2] I talk to God about my heart The devil plays some mean guitar Oh, I would love to dance up in Heaven When the saints go play their part [Instrumental Break] [Verse 3] The sky went dark, I fell apart Fell to my knees, I cried so hard And then I said goodbye to my children Hoping they'd carry me far Traditionally, the song relates to the same themes and is considered apocalyptic, and Gaga & co. played in to this more with the lyrics they added. They added a bit more story and humanity to it, in my opinion. Then lastly on "Get Happy 2024", they added verses talking about having mental struggles, being medicated to "get happy", and her view of Joker.
