Im aware, but given Gaga’s reduced screen time, I highly doubt she competes for Best Actress. the discourse before today was that she was the lead and should not do category fraud. The discourse now is that she’s barely in the movie and totally has a supporting role. At this point I think she probably could do BSA and it wouldn’t be frowned upon.

the competition in Best Actress will be quite hard, there is speculation that Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore will also be split between Best and Supporting. So Gaga will also likely push for Supporting.

HOG was far from a critical flop. This is how people claimed ARTPOP was an absolute failure just because it didn't smash like BTW. Its not always either black or white

It wasn’t as mercilessly savaged as it deserved but its reviews were far from glowing. Heavily mixed.

mixed is not a critical flop, we have too many examples of actual critical flops to call HOG one of them.

The thought of Gaga "barely" being in the movie scares me. Like if that turns out to be true ill be pissed cuz they clearly promoted her as a lead role. Iv not been waiting an entire year to see this movie just for this.

She’s in like most of the musical segments which there are quite a few so I’m a bit perplexed by the ‘barely in it’ comments. Maybe not as major as they were expecting but I don’t think ‘barely’ in it is accurate.

Not trying to be harsh, but it’s definitely obvious that many fans on here who are legit melting down don’t fully know what or why they’re melting down over.

A bit of historical research on movie reviews, especially easy research such as the scores for Joker 1 ahead of today would have saved so many tears.

It's an ok movie, possible to enjoy. But people at the time reacted like it was some sort of cult masterpiece (which isn't). Not to mention the incels, they wanted to BE joker and kill every woman on the planet.

I think Gaga will still have her moment as leading actress in a movie that is going to be very well received, one of those big dramas that will make her deliver a performance so good that an Oscar win for best actress won't even be a question, I dream for that to happen one day

I think give her another 15 years and she’ll probably do a drama where she plays an older character in a drama and that’ll be her Lead Actress win I think.

She needs a role that’s so FAR removed from Lady Gaga, nothing to do with fashion and divadom, nothing to do with music at all. That’s my thoughts anyway.

All her roles thus far are very Gaga coded (even in HoG).

As a professional who has worked in the entertainment business, some heartfelt advice that will make your wait easier:

Don't read the reviews and wait to see it for yourselves, then build a honest and personal opinion.

Trust me, that's just how it should be for every movie.

It’s clearly a polarizing movie, which we kind of expected. I’m eager to watch in a month! :holdmyhand:

Yes. I thought she was great as girl-next-door Ally, especially when she was interacting with her father. Something along those lines would be ideal. Gaga can turn herself into the most glamorous person on the planet if the occasion demands, but she can also do ordinary very convincingly.

I've read the first few reviews that google threw at me. They all pointed to flaws, but the only very negative one was from Variety. There wasn't a single negative note about Gaga in any of the reviews other than the consistent complaint that she was under-used, and that's really a positive for her. Even Variety said that she had a 'lovely unforced presence'. So clearly this movie is not 50/50, despite the billing and the poster, it is very much about Arthur, and JP is the star with Gaga in a strong supporting role. Given what the reviews are saying about her performance, I would have thought that best supporting noms would be a distinct possibility.

And just an observation. HOG was a very average movie, and there was general agreement that it suffered in the second half when Gaga largely disappeared off the screen. There seems to be some hint of that happening again.

my thoughts:

- it's good to see people say they wanted more of Gaga, i think that's a really positive thing for her acting career regardless of what happens come movie release and award season

- i personally think she should stop chasing that acting oscar so hard and just... enjoy the art of acting. not to say that's she's not enjoying it for what it is, but it's a bit painfully obvious she's choosing projects that are gunning for awards so aggressively

i think it would be really nice to see her win best actress in a film that wasn't intended to be HUGE or an obvious oscar candidate from the start, if that makes sense

Gaga needs to be more selective with her choice of directors imo. Denis Villeneuve, Guillermo Del Toro, Pablo Larrain, Pedro Almodovar, Luca Guadagnino, Jane Campion, Greta Gerwig, Baz Luhrman, The Daniels etc. Preferably directors and scripts that are focused on telling stories from a woman's perspective.

All three films she's starred in have ended up focussing on her male counterparts. It's become a pattern. I think her next few films need to focus solely on her character and she has the lead billing alone. Imo that's the only way she'll win Best actress.

Also If she's going to hypothetically do another musical, I need her to go full showgirl. There's nothing wrong with playing to her strengths, as long as it serves the film as a whole.

But I do agree that she just needs to have a bit of fun and do something less serious.
