This isn't what wanted at all. But tbh, every time a movie gets nothing but rave reviews and becomes, somewhat of a cult classic I usually hate them. For example, I think Kirsten Stewart did an astounding job playing Princess Diana in 'Spencer'. Critics tore her a new one, but that it'll never take away how that film makes me feel. It's so odd we even have critics' because art is subjective no matter which way you look at it. Everyone is affected by film and music in a different way. I still look forward to this film because I know she puts in the work. that film traumatized me my head is filled with broken mirrors, so many I can't look away

I think Gaga will be fine. If she's memorable enough and as good in the film as people say, she has a strong chance. But the movie was praised as a whole and even got several academy awards including best picture, that’s a whole lot difference. edit: I’m not trying to be negative but that’s how it works. When you have a good production that carries a movie in his totality chances are high to get the noms and awards. It’s a whole system and campaign that works all together. OMF 3,113
IGN gave it a 5/10 😩 Despite the best efforts of Joaquin Phoenix, Lady Gaga, and an opening hour set in Arkham Asylum, Joker: Folie à Deux wastes its potential as a movie musical, a courtroom drama, and a sequel that has anything meaningful to say about or add to the first Joker. https://www.ign.com/articles/joker-folie-deux-review-joaquin-phoenix-lady-Gaga-todd-phillips

It's still very early in the race and despite the mixed-negative reviews, tides can still turn. Especially once it gets its wide release. Give it time to breathe. Instead of dismissing its chances at the onset. And if doesn't win the awards, we still get a season of Gaga content... and it raises her stock as an actress further. It's all good. KennyRichie 1,727
Do we, as a fan base, tend to glorify and give more attention to bad reviews and unfair critics (which we all know are always going to be there) than to the actual good ones? Every time there is some bad review, there appears someone who validates their own judgments with it. Are we a fan base or a hate base. Let’s enjoy the movie and her acting. And yes, if we don’t like something, we can say it, but not in a hateful way as it sometimes seems, not just for this movie but like for everything. 3

Just the same complaint in that she wasn’t given the spotlight enough. Get that fire exit door, I’m off...

But I have a gut feeling that people in the film industry will like it. It might still be an awards contender. Box office might also still be successful. Critic scores don't matter much than expected. It's all about marketing. She's definitely getting praised here more, at least. They are ripping into Joaquin & Todd, and basically-from what I see-saying Gaga is under-used & there should have been more of her. She absolutely had her hardcore defenders for Gucci (and she did get a BAFTA nod), but the critics who hated her performance "really" hated her performance. So this seems different. I don't think this is going to 'hurt' her, but the best case scenario imo is GG nod for BSA and it doing well at the box office.

To be fair, most of the critics-as far as I can see-said they wanted more of Gaga and sh was under-used. I haven't really seen any criticism of her acting or her performance, just that they wish she had more screentime. Joaquin is getting surprisingly ripped into, though. I'm still here to enjoy the film, though. I feel like fans often tend things to the extreme-that it's the best thing ever or the worst thing ever-and it seems like it is just a solid film. Also, LG 7 is dropping soon & my guess is if the reviews stay steady Gaga is getting a GG nod for Joker 2

clownery 3,260
People here not knowing what MVP means is sending me . Also, mixed reviews as I expected, stop crying over something that was clearly going to happen. I will watch the movie no matter what, I loved the first one
Jennie Kim 6,899
BSA nom seems unlikely considering even when they praise her they mentioned how she's barely being utilized. I don't see a lot of people being passionate enough about the movie for a strong campaign. Let's hope for Box Office success.

I will watch the movie no matter what, I loved the first one Yeah, I feel like people take things to extremes. The reviews are mixed. It's polarizing, but nowhere near as polarizing as the first Joker. Most reviews are positive towards Gaga and say they wish she had a bigger role. It's not Gucci. She had a lot of positive reviews for Gucci, but the people who hated it really hated it. The accent and social media drama also sort of drowned out the positive reviews. This seems more of like a steady 8/10 of Gaga and 5/10 of the film (and critics are shockingly going after Joaquin). Best case scenario imo it makes a tidy profit (it won't make a huge one, as the budget was massive) and Gaga garners a Golden Globe nomination for BSA.
StrawberryBlond 13,934
Just remember that the first film was divisive by critics and even a lot of audience members. It got 69% on RT (7.3/10 average), 59/100 on MC, a B+ on CinemaScore and a 84% on PostTrak. That didn't stop people going to see it (over $1billion at the box office), setting records (most profitable film based on a comic book, biggest October opening weekend, highest grossing R-rated movie of all time), industry types praising it (actors and directors like Josh Brolin, Jessica Chastain, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Brendan Gleeson, David Fincher, Ridley Scott, etc sang its praises) and being nominated for and winning major awards (Joaquin won for his acting at the SAGs, BAFTAs, GG's and Oscars as well as the movie winning for its score and getting the Venice Film Festival's highest accolade, The Golden Lion). And it didn't stop the stairs in NY that the famous dance scene was shot on becoming a cultural landmark with people still videoing themselves dancing on it to this day and the movie being listed by Deadline and Empire under Greatest Movies of the 21st Century. Whatever happens, the movie will make money and it will have its supporters. Critical and audience praise isn't the be all and end all for whether a film is a financial success, wins Oscars or not or how much it goes on to be beloved for years to come. 4
