She also wrote almost every single hit she had and, of course, her voice was extraordinary. There's no reason for her not to be considered one of the best.

I think the list is coming from a UK standpoint, which is odd because Rihanna isn't on the list and she's huge there, but I just can't understand Mariah not being counted at all.

Okay I love Adele but people better stop kissing her ass she hasn't done anything influential. Bandwagoning morons.

Also Gaga deserves her spot on the list. She's only been around for four years people. Give it time.

Adele. is not. a pop. singer.

The world seems to be confused on this topic and continue to categorize her in Pop.

Oh and to put Adele on top because she had ONE album that did really well? Bye

Wee Monster

Kate Bush? Grace Jones? :usrs:

They're iconic but most people dunno them.

The fact that Adele is on there before Janet, Cher, and Britney is retarded.

I don't mean to single you out but if Kate and Grace are what you yourself would describe as "iconic" it seems weird to me that you would omit them from this list? I would agree that an argument could be made for Janet, Cher and Britney however it's no more "retarded" to rank Adele before them than it is to do so with Gaga. Not only has she been established in the mainstream for a longer period of time; but she has also managed to derail Gaga's stranglehold of the world's gaze at a time when anticipatory arguments were being made for the likes of Katy Perry and Taylor Swift. No one saw Adele coming and despite the fact so many of you seem keen to discredit her impact on pop culture, people bought her record - a lot of them at that. It's one thing to say that Gaga is more "out there" but at the end of the day: Adele beat Gaga at her own game. And if we are to look to anything other than record sales as an indicator of impact, we only feasibly have awards (Adele wins), Twitter followings (Justin Bieber wins) or concert sales (Madonna is still more successful).

I don't say any of this to discredit Gaga either. I wouldn't have contested this list in the slightest if she had come before Adele (Amy would have been another story) but I think it's completely illogical to lash out at a woman who has come out on top with such a tiny little fraction of the push and momentum Gaga had coming away from The Fame Monster.

Pop stands for popular

Adele's music is popular

Ergo

Pop music

This isn't a difficult concept. Pop ≠ Dance music

Pop does not mean popular

At least in today's context.

Rap is plenty popular and is not called Pop.

I like that list.. it's just full of talented women. But I think Cher and Cyndi Lauper should also be there.

One day Lady Gaga will have an article written about her that doesn't include a million of her "references" and "inspirations" because evidently the journalists are too lazy to see how influential she is right now.

This so much..It's sad.

I think this list was made by someone who was between choosing artist that are on the radio nowadays to please the general young public, and between adding the artist that deserve the place in female pop stars. I'm not happy with some chart positions though, and they fogot some good pop artists :crossed:

🎼 It's dark but just a game. 🖤🎧

The statement on Gaga is really bold. And yet I agree on every word on it. I'm fully more convinced each day that Gaga's indeed on her way to become one of the most prominent figures, not only in the music industry, but rather in the entire entertainment industry, for the 21st century with the continuing references on Elvis Presley.

This is a horrible countdown, honestly why is Adele in the list, and surpassing Gaga? Plus they spelled Gaga's name wrong. - Stefani-

There are plenty of Pop rap artists. Lil Wayne is Pop, Wiz Khalifa, Eminem, et cetera.. Yes, they are rap, but they are pop too. Just like Taylor Swift sings country, but is also still pop. Pop is a subgenre, it doesn't stand alone. To be classified as pop, your song must have mass appeal. If your songs are making the top ten list on billboard frequently, you're a pop artist. Adele is definitely pop, her appeal is probably greater than that of Gagas at least during 2012 anyway.

I disagree. To me, pop has nothing to do with sales or general appeal. Björk or Goldfrapp aren't particularly "popular", and yet, they're making incredible pop tunes.
