Kamala just walked on stage, and about 5 minutes in, chants from pro Palestinian protestors can be heard

Kamala stops her speech and addresses the issue- saying "NOW IS TIME FOR CEASE FIRE AND WE MUST BRING HOME THE HOSTAGES"

She said that President Joe Biden and she are working around the clock to make this happen.

It is slightly kafkaesque how we subject this woman to far less scrutiny or microscope than literally any other politician. Like if it was donald trump saying the same thing we'd laugh at how obvious the PR move is after the recent backlash. I kinda get it but like...just an observation lmao. I'm all for doing what needs to be done to get her over the finish line

PR move? im confused. you thought what she said wasn't genuine ?  do you think she should've done the same thing she did the first time? you don't look at this and think " she saw how what she did the first time wasn't a great response and upset people. so this time she corrected her mistake and acknowledge and aligned and reassured the protestors that theyre being heard and something is trying to be done" ????

Even though I dont have much hope she will do anything about Israel, im glad she addressed it the correct way, and knows that Arab Americans will hold her accountable for it.

I also think its strategically a mistake to include Biden, when she needs to distance herself from his approach to Israel.

no lmao I think what she said absolutely needed to be said, I'm just making a point that people accept it as sincere when it's obviously not. her true sentiment was on show the other day at the other rally. but they saw the backlash and did an emergency PR brainstorm. like if it was any other politican we wouldn't accept it as sincere as readily and would interpret it more cynically

Respectfully disagree. Kamala has advocated for a ceasefire for a while and spoke with the protest/advocacy groups who shouted her down in private the other night and secured their endorsement. I personally think she’s the real deal on this, but didn’t want the optics of getting trampled by protestors at the rally in MI, realized that that probably wasn’t the right stance and course corrected her response this time. Keep in mind she’s been on the campaign trail for just shy of a month atp, so she’s building the tracks while the train is fully in motion. Ofc PR is a consideration, but I don’t think her correcting a messaging error should necessarily be interpreted as insincerity.

Meh, you're the expert. I only see her best bits and when she's busting out laughing :franminervini:

Idk. I would be happy to hear any politician correct their mistake and use their platform to stand up and say the right thing.

of course she and her team realized she didn’t do the right thing the first time and I’m sure she decided she would act differently next time. There is nothing not sincere about that imo .

I get where you’re coming from, tho. But hey, even if it’s not sincere, if we bully a pol into the right position and it (hopefully) yields outcomes, a win’s still a win haha.

SpadesToStart

I think there are a lot of indicators that Kamala is significantly more sympathetic to Gaza than Biden. However, she’s in a difficult position in terms of what she can say right now.
1. She is the sitting VP within the Biden administration, so she can’t just fully crap on Biden’s stance and his work thus far.

2. Being anti-Israel is not an electable position to take in a US general election. That’s the gross reality, so she needs to play the game because she can’t do any good for the situation if she’s not elected.
