DRAMA BOMB! US Gymnastics Golden Winning Team Shades Ex-Team Mate For Being A Hater

So, CONTEXT:

Earlier this month, former Team USA gymnast MyKayla Skinner questioned the work ethic of gymnasts today, saying their “talent and the depth just isn’t what it used to be.” She said that apart from Simone Biles, “a lot of girls don’t work as hard” and “just don’t have the work ethic.”
 

In a since-deleted YouTube video, Skinner criticized the 2024 Olympic team, stating that the talent and work ethic was lacking compared to previous teams. She attributed this reduced work ethic to the U.S. Center for SafeSport, an organization set up to reduce sexual abuse in Olympic sports in the wake of the USA Gymnastics sex abuse scandal, and to the retirement of controversial women's team coordinator, Márta Károlyi.

Many also believed that Skinner took a subtle dig at 2020 Tokyo all-around champion Sunisa Lee, with comments about her body appearance and second place finish at the 2024 Olympic trials. Skinner also continuously mispronounced the name of Hezly Rivera, another member of the 2024 team. This resulted in many members of the gymnastics community, including Olympians and family members, speaking out against her comments.

News reports that MyKayla stated on camera, “Besides Simone, I feel like the talent and the depth just isn’t like what it used to be.” According to MyKayla, “the girls just don’t have the work ethic” gymnasts of her time once did. She specifically named SafeSport, the US center established in 2017 to protect athletes, as a roadblock for coaches to “get on athletes” like they did in the infamous era under Martha Karolyi (who has since faced criticism for her treatment of players).

Long story short, MyKayla pulled the ol’ “back in my day” and the internet nor her ex-teammates were having it. It appears that none of Team USA (Simone Biles, Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey, and Hezly Rivera) is following MyKayla anymore on IG. 

Seemingly in response to the situation, Simone posted on the app Threads (Instagram’s ugly step-sister), “Not everyone needs a mic and a platform.” 

MyKayla apologized afterwards after getting backlash, if her words were “misinterpreted or misunderstood.”

But..! It ain't over til it's over.

On Tuesday, after Team USA brought home gold at the Paris Olympics, Biles appeared to respond with a cheeky Instagram caption, defemding her teammates that was told to be "not working as hard".

“Lack of talent, lazy, olympic champions,” Biles captioned a photo of herself with teammates Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey, and Hezly Rivera.

Fans couldn’t help but feel like the caption was aimed at Skinner, who won a silver medal for her vault performance at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 when filling in for Biles after she withdrew from the finals.

And then, just 1 hour, one of the golden girl, Jordan Chiles, actually posts on her Insta Story that Simon Biles is blocked by MyKayla, meaning she was indeed targeting the current Gymnasts team, contradicts her apology statement.
