A stark reminder that democracy should not be taken for granted.

Easy to elect an autocrat, much much harder to get them out.

Chronically online communists and extreme leftists are celebrating this win meanwhile people actually affected by this regime are suffering.

What's happening in the world now is scary. In France, Macron is also refusing to recognise that the left won the assembly vote and refuses to name a left prime minister. I don't really like how all those politicians suddenly think they can do what they want

I saw the protests on the news, despite the chaotic situation it is good to know the population is fighting this authoritarian regime and is not backing down. Also the international pressure for transparency in results is intensifying. Another 6 years of power abuses and violation of civil rights is a terrifying scenario, I can’t imagine how concerned you are right now! Is there a possibility the National Assembly or the Supreme Court declare the elections were manipulated so the results can be cancelled?

The National Assembly and the Supreme Court are both controlled by Nicolás Maduro. There's no division of powers in Venezuela, they control everything.

In fact, in 2015 the opposition won the Assembly elections and the Supreme Court started releasing rulings that prohibited most of the chosen candidates from working in public positions, so the regime instantly took over the Assembly again.

That is very sad. That's why I was saying earlier that this is not Left vs. Right, this is Democracy vs. Dictatorship. They claim to be socialists so socialists and communists from other countries validate their vile actions, and there are people who are blind enough to support them just because they say they are leftists, meanwhile they kill the people.

The fact that Trump gaslit his cult into thinking this happened in 2020 in the US is crazy. 💀

Thanks to all Venezuelans for speaking out in this thread. I was having a hard time trying to figure out anything. In my country some media say there were a lot of international observers and that everything is fine while some others say these elections were a blatant fraud.

There were lots of international observers that were not allowed to enter the country because they declared that they were going to support whoever won the election. Most (not all but most) of the international observers that were allowed into the country support Maduro.

It's been 2 days since the election, Maduro has already been proclaimed as winner and we still haven't seen the official results. The official page of the National Election Center is unavailable and they are not going to release the results because they know the election was rigged.

I don't get how seeing that there are international observers saying that they saw everything was in order. It makes no sense.

Right? When in fact, in the case of 2020, he was the one doing what Maduro is doing rn

My bad. I meant to say that some news in my country say that everything is fine since there were international observers, not that international observers themselves said everything was fine. But I learnt a lot by reading your messages. Thank you so much!

Update:

The president of the Congress just requested that both María Corina Machado and Edmundo González are arrested.

It's not the first time that when the opposition has a leader, they look for any way to incarcerate them for all kinds of crimes like conspiracy and treason, among others.

I hope things get better, but honestly, I never expected something else to happen. They won't give up the power until they'r forced by the people with the military back up.

I’m Argentinian and I just want to say that I send love to all Venezuelans living under this regime of tyranny, and lots of love to all Venezuelans living in Argentina. Even tho I know it must be hard to leave your home country, argentina is yours too.

Kindness rules all.

It is much worse than I thought. I knew he had majority control of the institutions, but I thought there was a minority of opponents who could somehow contrabalance this fraudulent election. The international community needs to step in quickly!!

This is why it's so important to keep on echoing everything that's happening right now in Venezuela. Everything counts, share all the information you can on social media!

We will thank you forever
