The Villages, Florida Residents Rallying For Kamala Harris

To give context to non US members, The Villages is an infamous town in Florida known to host mostly rich white Republican boomers, who retired there, they are pretty much important area.

Is this the start of Florida turning blue once again? The last time they did so were during 2008 & 2012 election for Obama.

Trump won Florida in 2016 also mainly because votes from The Villages & Dade County.

So, perhaps something is moving our way now, one can wish! It's  up to Kamala now, she better not fumble whenever she visits those places!

Doubt it but Trump did only win the state by 1% and 3% in 2016 and 2020 respectively. I imagine his margin will widen this time but anything is possible these days.

She is absolutely not winning Florida. Trump’s support among the Hispanic community has grown and all the Cubans in Florida are voting for Trump. Any small increase in Boomers from The Villages will be canceled out by these voters. 

I hope I’m wrong but Florida is a waste of time and so is Texas. 

Only way to win these states is to have a massive increase in voter turnout and even then that doesn’t guarantee it.

I'm not saying you're wrong and I do not think these are necessarily turning points, but I think we should keep in mind that like 20 million boomers have died since 2016 and 50 million Gen Z have become of voting age since 2020.

Just my opinion but I have a feeling that growth in Latino support for Trump had a lot more to do with the things happening in 2020 than it was genuine support for Trump or the GOP. At least for non-Cubans. Either way, this is something that I will be watching to see if it’s an actual trend or if it was just a fluke.

We can only hope they vote for Harris and turn out in droves. 2022 not being as much as a red wave thanks in large part to younger voters gives me some hope.

The campaign already released some of their strategies, the focus are on the actual swing states. But if we keep seeing this grassroots effort to raise more money, with addiction of superPACs, they will have enough money to show a big presence in Florida and make the Trump Campaign play defense there, this would leave a clearer path in the rust belt.

And honestly, things like this moment in the Villages have one key objective.

Make the enemy think you're a threat in the backyard. That way, they aren't looking forward.

I remember a local election here where we ran a massive online campaign in a major Tory safe council seat. Cost us barely anything but suddenly the Tories switched some of their campaigning in marginals to supporting their more elite member thinking we had made inroads in the seat lol

We got about 100 votes to his 2000. But won a clean sweep in the swing seats 😂

To be clear I also don't think she's going to win Florida this time, but I also don't think we should treat Florida like a lost cause. 

Part of the reason the state was allowed to shift so violently to the right was because the Democratic party as a whole let go of it. They stopped putting resources into local candidates, stopped reaching out to voters there, turned their attention to many other places. In their absence, Republicans were able to come in and set up shop. 

As a party, they absolutely should be investing time and effort into Florida again to start helping down ballot candidates on the local level start getting some actual footing again. Florida is a flippable state, the party just needs to start actually paying attention to it. 

I don't think it'd be an awful idea for Kamala to stop there in one or two cities if for nothing else to try and reengage the potential voters there which could only be positive for the city, county, and state candidates trying to run against the Republicans there.

The Florida Democratic Party is a disaster. If they fix it and organize Florida can be at play in future elections for sure. 

But I agree they obviously shouldn’t ignore Florida but the focus needs to be on others states that are actually at play.

Guys I’m at peak hipomania here so forgive me if I’m too hopeful, but what about Texas? Demographic changes in the state recently didn’t make a difference politically, I think on other races this is more due to gerrymandering, but at the presidential is all about turnout and hope, could it not? 

My point is, I am far far away from the US, and from understanding americans that deep, but could we make a difference enough to scare republicans to play defense there and in FL? I don’t know if the campaign has a digital role for volunteers abroad, but if not we got the tools we need. If anyone’s interested or know something around this subject, idk. 

If we make they spend money where they think it’s safe, we already make a difference. Yeah I know, the dems are far from what you need, and corporations will still rule and all that, but to me, as a latino, lgbtqia+, sexual abuse survivor, I wanna revenge, I want the most humiliating defeat of this old creep. And besides all that I am, I wanna do something for my mom that lost her life for COVID when she couldn’t vaccinate bc of another old creep dude from the extreme right here in Brazil.

We were able to remove that piece of crap from our presidency here, you were able to remove this orange demon there, we are not going back to those days.
