Incredible achievement, even though it's clearly not... that popular, you most likely won't hear a TTPD song in public, it's not inescapable a la 21, The Fame Monster, etc.

it's giving BTS having 6 No.1 Hit on Hot 100 but GP wouldn't be able to name any of them

Surely the streams are pushing the album as much as the variants? So there must be staying power outside the fan base

the variants have little to no impact tbh

The fact that Taylor almost single-handedly turned chart success into something that people do not take seriously anymore because everyone knows there are elements that are not organic :messga:

Like back in 2010-11 when Katy had 5 #1 singles it was still an impressive feat or when Adele was selling millions and Taylor herself was selling 1 million+ albums in the first week throughout 2010s, it was impressive. But now with versions and variants, it's become so irrelevant :wtfga:

she wouldn't be at #1 this week if she hadn't dropped variants and signed CDs last week

the signed CD’s yes but not the variants tbh. Same with all the others they’re only collectors and wouldn’t have impacted any single week. The sales of the variants including acoustic versions or voice memos had no impact really

Nessun Dorma

So that means she’ll finally stop dropping variants?! :volantis:

I say this being a fan of her music (I love Folklore and Evermore. Red, Speak Now and Lover are often on replay), but this marketing strategy is so annoying that I couldn’t even listen to the whole album, I felt like I needed a break from her.

This relentless effort for chart dominance is pathetic and petty. It’s says more about her ego than her music, which is sad. Her art should be her first priority, it’s not like she’s in need for acclaim, fame and money. She already has it all.

Not to mention the ongoing environmental impact of her continuous releases.

Eventually I’ll get back to TTPD, but right now I just feel tired of her and the mess she has made.

Lemme tell you if all female artists released 30 versions of the same album, she wouldn't be the only one. It's nothing but cheating her way up to the top while scamming her fans at the same time. I don't understand how her fans still celebrate her "achievements".

Bish please, Katy wouldn't achieve the same if she releases 100 versions. Neither would 95% of them bishes. So stay bothered and keep killing that streaming button for her to break another record, wheee!

I kinda wish that Billboard would start putting a cap on the variants.  I can get my head around one deluxe version, not a bunch of them.  Alternatively, make a rule that for variant releases to count there has to be a minimum of like three new tracks (not counting live/remix versions), so you can’t have Taylor releasing four CDs with a slightly different cover and one different bonus track.

The album will be forgotten In a year or so. There’s nothing memorable or iconic about it :cheeky:

I don't want to take away from her achievements as that's still incredibly impressive, but I always feel like there should be an asterisk next to these achievements noting that they occurred in the streaming era. It's simply not the same to stay at #1 because you have a fanbase that's willing and able to consistently stream your album as opposed to staying at #1 because people across the general public had to go out and physically buy your album, as it was for Whitney. Not even trying to be shady, but comparing her record to Whitney's devoid of this context is pretty meaningless.
