No. That was at his previous gig. Ironically, the next question at the press conference after the Harris/Trump flub was about the Zelensky/Putin flub.

oh looorde. Two separate instances in a row? I feel like that makes it worse. :traumatica:

It’s not the gaffes themselves that are that bad, it’s the ****ing optics and the media cycle this is creating. American voters don’t vote with logic, they vote with their feelings. Most people are not political aside from one or two issues that might care about. I’ve heard the most liberal seeming people who love gay **** say “oh I don’t know which side is right.” What they’re looking for is a convincing voice and a consensus surrounding it.  You want to risk depressing the vote of undecided people with this decrepit old man who cant stop saying the wrong thing every time he’s in front of a mic? The cat is out of the bag, people.

Cool heads and logical thinking are needed - by Biden and his team and Dem leaders. Only one question matters : who has the best chance of beating Trump ? It's either going to be Biden or someone else. I think Harris is the best of the someone else's. So Biden or Harris ?

The election IS about Trump, and the Dem campaign therefore needs to be about Trump and the reasons why he is not an acceptable candidate. Who can drive home that message more powerfully and more consistently ? I think it's Kamala. Another thing she has going for her is that if Joe withdraws from the race I think he would also have to resign from the Presidency, and so Kamala would be sworn in and WOULD become the first (black) female President. She would probably get an electoral boost from that event in itself and she would also have a couple of months to impress as President. The negatives for Kamala are that she is a black woman and that she is not curently popular anyway (as far as I know).

What about Joe ? Flubbing names is not new and is not disqualifying, but the debate performance involved more than flubbing names and is more concerning. His team will know his true condition, maybe it's worse than it appears, maybe it's better. In his favour is the fact that he is the incumbent and that he is a straight white male as opposed to a black female.

The Dems need to make a clear-headed calculation. Joe's ego can't be a factor, and neither can concerns about how history will view him if he stays on and loses. They need to make their best guess at what the best chance is and go with that.

Personally I find it bewildering and distressing that this election is even a contest. Trump has more baggage than a fleet of 747's could hold. But throw it all overboard and hold on to one thing : the guy attempted a coup d'etat in 2021, live on tv. It is absurd that he is not in jail (or dead), but it is simply mind-boggling that he is currently leading in the polls.

Step down and defeat Trump. Someone competent, clear and loud needs to step in, I don't think Kamala could win over Trump.

I agree with you on everything you said, but we're here now and it is what it is. I wrongly assumed that the party trying to keep this trainwreck of a country going and their supporters would have enough sense to combat what's running in the press now instead of helping it by spreading the dumb sh*t. Encouraging the "he's mental and we're doomed" narrative isn't helping; being smart enough to educate and spread the reality of the situation would. If Trump and his supporters are helping their cause by posting and sensationalizing his fumbles, what sense does it make doing the same thing they are? We're even getting a little help today; several world leaders and commentators have spoken up about the great job he did at the same event people have negatively posted about on here. But if the Gaga queers can't even get it together and shape up, maybe we really are doomed.

I agree and it's well said. But yeah it's sensationalized. I wish it wasn't, and we still had a pre-2016 sense of reality on things. But I don't think we do or will for a while. I think it's hard to blame individuals for being scared though too. Surely a lot of people still remember how Trump terrorized everybody daily with insane headlines and outrageous things he was seeking to implement. And now we're leading with fear. Don't be mad at the people who are fearful, be mad at the DNC that was hoping to weaponize that fear in order to elect Biden again. Honestly, I feel like if Biden stepped down from the presidency today with a powerful speech he could mobilize a lot of support still. Something along the lines of "I wanted Kamala and I to do x, y, z and continue to do so. But I can no longer carry on because of (whatever he's had going on). The country is in good hands with Kamala because behind closed doors she's been doing x, y, and z. She's also met with every day Americans to do this and that in public". If she got the support of Katie Porter and AOC she'd mobilize a lot of the younger vote. An older male VP could mobilize the older vote. She can inspire a bit of the black vote as well. Her being put in office could also buy her some goodwill with the public if she were to sign some meaningful executive orders with conviction in the first few weeks of her presidency. I truly believe she could win. We've had a POC president before. And Hilary came close despite not being entirely popular as well. Now moderates know what's at stake though. Biden needs to step down from the campaign if not the office too. Kamala needs to make the campaign her own, and push human rights. She needs to come together with the rest of the party and lay out a tax plan post-2025 that will strengthen the middle class and bolster the lower class, and find a way to slow down inflation. She needs to lay out something for DREAMers but find a middle ground to appease moderates on some border issues. It'd be a relatively hard win for her, but I don't think it's impossible. Biden at this point will not get Democrats across the finish line.

He just needs to step down.

Problem is people don't know and don't care. They don't grasp the magnitude of damage it would do to the Democratic nominee and the whole campaign. It has always been a major factor to be an incumbent. The Wall Street Journal just released an article about it and other factors that weigh heavily in winning the election. If you take those factors away it's statistically proven that it's less likely to beat Trump. Yesterday Biden showed up and he stumbled but he mainly showed that his struggle comes with speaking and not with actually doing the job. His understanding and handling of questions, the content of politics that he brings up and how to read the room you can tell he's a president that lives up to the occasion and is able to silent his worst critics. I feel like people around him and in the party are way too nervous to really grasp the magnitude of damage it would do if they push Biden aside. He needs to go into the offensive and do as many interviews as possible so people start to overlook his stumbles and actually start to listen WHAT he is saying. Because the content he brings beats Trump in a landslide

Well the reason we're all so quick to condemn it is because we're not really the people who need to hold strong in spite of Biden's failures. What matters are the floating/swing voters and what their instinctual reaction is. It's clear they condemn it/can't vote for Biden, so what's the point in continuing any further? Regardless of whether or not this mass condemnation is orchestrated, it's happening and happening easily so Dems need to adapt in my opinion. Wishing and praying that people don't judge Biden is idealistic and unrealistic - it's as good as burying your head in the sand. It's already happening and is having a profound effect. Biden cannot get ahead of events now, he needs to go.

I disagree in that I think Biden stepping down now would validate the Trump administration and make it seem like they knew what they were talking about all along and sew distrust in the Harris administration for letting us be ran by a man who had to step down for what people believe are cognitive decline. It'd make the platform look weak, disorganized, and power-hungry. We'd lose the incumbent bump and there is a block of (dumb) moderates we'd lose because of Kamala's genetic makeup. I just don't see it working out this late in the process especially after he's just doubled down. But even though I disagree, I'm glad to see there's a well thought out alternate and plan somewhere in the crowd beyond just "get rid of him".

The more he speaks the more he burries himself. First calls president Zelensky Putin now this

How about his very few interviews or appearances and the fact they have questions and answers have to be predetermined?

Or the short working schedule cuz he can only function well from 10am to 4pm?

@PartySick do u still believe the obvious lies that he is mentally fine? I think fewer and fewer ppl buy this BS cuz its so obvious

a fumble or miscalling someone can happen to anyone here and there, ppl can have brain farts. But all of this added up together? This isnt an isolated brain fart, these things have become the norm for Biden

Biden, his fmaily and his advisors are selfish AF. Step down and support another candidate NOW

Seriously. Politicians almost always place personal ambition ahead of the interests of the Country and its disgusting

Here in Canada Trudeau also refuses to step down despite the fact poll after poll shows the conservatives leading and that few people like Trudeau...

Yet the conservative leader isnt too popular himself with 2/3 of population. Which means if they put a new face on the liberals theyd have a shot cuz it seems like ppl are favouring Polievre simply because hes an alternative to Trudeau

Trudeau isnt stupid he knows this. But hes gonna hang on to power as long as he possibly can cuz thats just what politicians do :madge:
