Westerosi 2,125
Gaga won't & Interscope won't. Here's why. Gaga will never take an old song for a previously recorded record and use it on a new one. She certainly would never re-work an old song that has already leaked. Sure, re-working lyrics/arrangements for a new album with your old notes is cool, but Gaga is all about Newer. Fresher. Current. Present, NOW moment. What's happening now? Where am I at in my life now? How do I feel now? "This song will always have a special place in my heart 🖤" is true enough. I can see her humming the chord melody of Brooklyn Nights late at night in the shower, when she's exhausted from a long day and her thoughts are drifting toward Carl. It was a special relationship and occurred at a special time in her life. But here's why Interscope can't allow it. Though never receiving an official release, the song was temporarily made available for download on iTunes, as well as streaming on Apple Music, Google Play Music, and Spotify on April 15, 2018. The track was taken down 3 days later as it was an illegally licensed post credited under the copyright name, '℗ 2018 Stefani Germanota (sic)'. The song managed to reach the Top 40 on the US iTunes Pop Songs. Source: https://ladygaga.fandom.com/wiki/Brooklyn_Nights_(song)#Writing To even attempt a re-release with the goal of making it chart and hopefully obtaining a #1 spot is simply ludicrous from a business perspective. Is it a commercially viable song? Yes. Would it resonate with the GP? Probably. Would Gaga stans push it to the top #10? Possibly. Would it reach #1? Maybe. But the real reason Gaga cannot release Brooklyn Nights under Interscope is because she already tried, and it failed. Not because it's a bad song, but because of bad management. During a Twitter Q&A on October 13, Gaga confirmed that the song would be available instead through the ARTPOP application. However, plans for the app were shelved and the song remained unreleased. Source: https://ladygaga.fandom.com/wiki/Brooklyn_Nights_(song)#Writing Except it was released. Some stan probably thought they were doing Gaga a favour by going behind the label's back and publishing it. One of the problems with that is, had Gaga ever truly wanted to re-release Brooklyn Nights ever again, she couldn't, because somebody got there first and it caused a legal nightmare. No business, whether they're a label, a brand or a conglomerate, would ever risk investing financially and trying to promote and sell something that has performed so poorly in the past. We have the B-side. She has allowed us to enjoy it for free. Play this on repeat and celebrate until LG7 arrives, then make up for every stream Brooklyn Nights lost out on by throwing your money at her new record. I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.
