Forgive my ignorance, but what makes *this* specific attack so special? Like why are so many people finally speaking out? Was there a particular image going viral or something? Kids have been getting murdered by Israel for months now (decades really).

After completely leveling what’s left of Palestine/Gaza, 1.7 million people were seeking refuge in the only place left considered a safe haven and now Israel is attacking that safe haven.

Basically, there was an attack by Israel in a part of Rafah that was designated as a safe zone for displaced Palestinians to flee to per instructions of Israel. Israel proceeded to bomb it, claiming that Hamas members were hiding in the encampment, leading to some of the most gruesome civilian casualties since Israel's retaliation in October 2023.

In particular, an image of father screaming in agony holding his beheaded child that was scorched by the fires went viral and caused quite a bit of outcry from people around the world. The violence is escalating significantly and making mainstream news, once again.

Edit; Should add that Netanyahu has claimed that the attack was a mistake after international outcry started pouring in. Initially, the IDF had other opinions on the matter.

it's a UN refugee camp that was considered a safe haven and shouldn't be bombed under international law. Israel ignored that, took full blame for the attack, called it a "mistake" and the images and videos coming out were absolutely horrific, not to mention that even biased western media outlets reported on it.

OT; I'm kind of shocked that Katy of all people is sharing something since she's a proud centrist democrat. Shame that much more "progressive" celebrities continue to remain silent, even when we've seen how a simple post can increase donations to reputable charities in a matter of minutes.

cant describe how disappointed in Gaga I actually am. This woman constantly speaks up for injustice and those that are marginalized, her silence since the beginning is alarming and she should use her platform now more than ever.

Thank you, everyone, for the info. As if things couldn't get more horrific. It's awful it took yet another "war" crime for some influential people to finally start talking about the genocide.

Ignorance is so prevalent on this sub. Gaga shouldn’t say anything - she knows Israel is a liberal democracy and has a total right to defend itself from hamas. Casualties occur in war, wake up. 7 October children were being burned in ovens by Hamas, babies cut out of wombs, women raped. These are casualties in war, it’s sad and unfortunate, but this is not genocide.
