I don't know why so many are doubting and laughing at your theory, it makes a lot of sense. The ok sign specifically is very different from the classic covering one eye/half of face which was such a celebrity trend at one point so she could have meant something deeper.

But the point is, it still is largely innocent, especially outside America. It doesn't have a universal negative meaning. To just call it a white power symbol on the same level as the Nazi salute with no other alternative meaning is hardly accurate. And considering some of us innocently make this symbol when talking (I do it when articulating certain thoughts or trying to remember something), we're going potentially demonise people. As soon as I heard that whole theory, it was so ridiculous I knew someone just made it up and they had. It just goes to show we shouldn't believe something on the internet is true and run with it. If we'd done that, it wouldn't have had the chance to get noticed and become a white power symbol. While I don't agree with the idea that it's also a satanic symbol it looks a lot closer to three 6's than a W and a P. The P bit requires your arm, it looks more like 'III O' and it's so obviously made up. I think racists operate in ways that don't involve something as basic as hand signals and policing something that basic means we might overlook the actual dangerous things they do because we're too busy trying to decode a hand gesture.

I think it was just a strategic hand gesture that people would associate with her, and was more of a marketing decision than anything beyond that. She probably thought it looked nice, so she went with it. The impact it had and how everyone was going it after that among the GP was interesting. I remember so many profile pictures and social media posts with people doing that. Now when you see that done, you immediately associate it with her Fame era days and GP associates it specifically with Poker Face.
