She is not an original character. They just changed her name. she’s playing the same character Janet gaynor Judy garland and Barbra Streisand played but through a modern 2018 lens. Nobody in their late 20s/early 30s, like Ally, is named Esther in 2018. It is 20th century and earlier name. This is a 21st century remake.
