Great thread. She does have some doozies, and when you see them all written down .... oh dear.

If I had to pick one I'd go for the Gypsy one 'the way that you love and treat your mother' etc. For that one I think she just wrote down something that rhymed and to hell with whether or not it made much sense. I think she does that a lot to be honest. Lyrics ain't her thing. Sound is her thing. She writes great melodies and choruses and sings them with her great voice. Yes, each song is ABOUT something, but I don't think she kills herself trying to find that perfect lyric.

My tuppence worth on Plastic Doll - I really like the sound and the song, and obviously the lyrics are supoosed to conjure up Barbie images, but yeah, I've no excuses for Malibu Gaga and saga.

As for 'I just wanna be free, I just wanna be me, and I want lots of friends that invite me to their parties', I think they are really good lyrics, not bad, and there's another song I really like.

Yeah I kinda forced myself to love it more than I would if it were released any other time besides COVID...or if it weren't her first dance pop album in 7 years....or if she released more frequently 

It just felt very paint-by-numbers simple lyrically and production-wise. I obviously listen to several of the songs often, kind of as a "it is what it is" type enjoyment. But I've been with this puta since the beginning and this album is a FAR stretch from her best lyrically, sonically, conceptually, AND visually 

BUT it's the dance-pop album we have for this decade after waiting so long, so I will obviously support it and defend it against any other fanbase lol

When I initially listened to the album, I was a bit puzzled by Alice's brevity but vibed to SL and ROM.

Having heard the FW demo, I was hyped to hear the final version only to get that gutted and empty sounding monstrosity

It put me in such a bad mood that I rolled my eyes at Fun Tonight, I think I skipped 911 after the second verse 'cause that chorus was ticking me off. Plastic Doll was a skip. Sour Candy remains her worst song imo. Even Enigma and Replay were blah.

But Sine pulled me back in  gorgeous song and of course it's one that Bloodpop dislikes and even mocks. I actually got to enjoy it, 1000 Doves, and Babylon (which I liked more than the Haus Labs ad version).

Then we heard 1000 Doves as a ballad and I just

I actually wish she'd make another analog album like Joanne, I'm honestly tired of pop music

But yeah, Chromatica doesn't really have the concepts to delve into like other albums do, which was always my favorite part of her work. She started expanding it with a narrative and lore around the music - the 911 video was definitely brain food - but she ditched it for obvious reasons.

Which, again, I respect but like you said, "it is what it is" and it is...a solid 10/10 while every other album is at least a 15/10

We have mostly the same reactions but I despise SL, I live for SC only for the Gaga parts, I really love Enigma and Replay, Sine was just ok, and I want the Bowie Babylon version. Even the fan made Haus Lab versions on Twitter were better than the DOC version 

Here's hoping LG7 is fully cooked with top notch, layered, intricate production, memorable and original melodies and (actual) choruses, and more interesting, thought-provoking lyrics...

I literally tried to recreate that vocal synth by taking the "oh-o-o-o-ooh" from Bad Romance, chopping it up, and slapping every filter I could think of onto it but it just doesn't even come close

That was just my initial listening experience

I still don't really care for Sour Candy but I like every other song well enough to vibe to them. Enigma definitely rose to be one of my faves.

I made my own version of Alice (gave it a second verse using Electric Chapel), Stupid Love (added an intro with MJ's multitracks and made the ending longer), and I have a rough demo for my own version of Free Woman that needs to be cleaned up but structurally? I'm happy with ha.

I'm also working my version of Replay that I love so far  I added Swine's piggy sounding percussion (fitting, methinks), filtered the guitar from the DOC remix, and extended a few bits of the song. I'm contemplating having the song end with a total Swine/Replay mashup like the Seth Lee remix but...I dunno, lots of ideas

Correct. Because taking "album" out would remove the meaning.

I'm telling you as a native English speaker, there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with those lyrics.

They are more complex thoughts so maybe that's why it's difficult to understand. This post sums up that one

No, it wasn't the Chromatica demos. We worked on some stuff. We start stuff, we finish stuff, we put stuff away, we pick stuff back up, it's not a linear process. We stated working on stuff before Chromatica happened and we didn't finish it yet. We'll see what happens!

Well I actually enjoy DJWS as a person and a producer, so perhaps there are other songs besides the panned ones that will make it to another project.

But tbh Gaga is approaching her 40s and she seems to be in a much different headspace than 2017, let alone 2020.

Agree, Free Woman final version is an abominaion compared to the demo. Fun Tonight, I absolutely adore because of lyrics like "wish I could be what I know I am" which in my opinion is such a simple yet beautiful way of describing one of the many realities of living with mental illness. 911 I love, v experimental but it did take a few listens for me too. 1000 Doves I love too - I just think it's a perfect house record, kind of goes nowhere, stays the same, but I love it for that haha. The drum track on 1000 Doves is amazing imo
