Grimes’ DJ set at Coachella cut short due to 'technical issues'

Things started off strong for Grimes during her set at Coachella 2024. She entered the Sahara Stage on a futuristic walking vehicle, something that crawled like a spider as she sat in the backseat. But they quickly devolved for the electronic singer-songwriter, who faced major technical difficulties during the 50-minute show.

Just after the halfway mark, Grimes had to restart “Music 4 Machines” numerous times, because she could not get the bpm right - explaining that the songs were playing at double the speed that she intended. “This is a difficult thing to explain but we’re having a major technical error,” she said, trying to think of a solution on the fly. “Don’t judge me for being bad a calculating things.”

Grimes said that she was trying to do the math in real time to remember the tempo of each song she had queued up but wasn’t able to compute in real-time. Instead, she decided to play several unreleased songs, including ones that she recorded in the past few days. She paused between each track, letting out angsty screams, stating that it wasn’t “actually my fault” that the set was falling apart. “I’m trying to think. I’m not good enough at math for this ****,” she said. In the end, she finally led into “Genesis,” but the set was cut short and she exited the stage. source


The set  included Grimes screaming out in frustration multiple times, as well as apologising and promising to to fix the problems ahead of Weekend 2 of Coachella

I mean... It's Grimes. She's chaotic. This isn't a surprise, innit?

And tbh she still did a great set, she still managed to play music despite everything. If anything, we should applaud her for succeding to get the music playing again, because fixing a problem while thousands of people are waiting sounds horrendously stressful...

I love these "They are known to be bad/chaotic but at least they are manage to do something" comments. Like once they made bad customer service their personality the problem is all up to ppl now. Which in some way is valid.

I see what you mean... I know the same is being about Madonna being late, and how people should just expect that, but in Madonna's case, the ticket says she'll be onstage at a certain time, she isn't, and if people stay until the end of the concert, it might be too late for public transport or stuff like that. On the other hand, Grimes promised music, and delivered music! Sure, there was a total of like 5-7mins of silence throughout the set, but the rest was great, and unlike Madonna, it didn't ruin anyone plans

I've never seen a Madonna ticket with the set times. Or any concert ticket tbh. They just state the doors opening time & include the "show" start time which is just when the 1st warm up/support goes on.

Tbh this lineup looks abysmal from the start, not surprised it’s been awful. Pretentious event with major non celebs in attendance.
