HIM820 1,747
This was at a very contentious time between her and Taylor Swift, no? So I kinda think the possibility of sabotage is high. Not saying the artists themselves did anything specifically, but the people they employ and the record labels are not always the greatest and will use tactics like influencing certain radio stations or certain journalists/ popular outlets for their support. Not to mention how political she was being, I am sure that angered certain conservatives in the industry. Edited April 3 by HIM820

WhiteWitch 720
Honestly, I loved Witness but didn’t connect with Smile much. I also didn’t vibe with Xtina’s album “Liberation” and kinda fell off from there. I would love to know more on claims of conspiracy since I’m ignorant to that and don’t have a ton of social accounts, but my personal perspective has been that both artists are responsible for their declines. Xtina’s difficulties and tumultuousness are also something that seem to add to her career challenges, and both have absolutely had releases that may prove to be ahead of their time but didn’t land. I haven’t gotten the chance to listen to AGUILERA yet, but it’s on my list to soon (work and school). For both I’ll still keep eyes and ears open and see how it goes. I’m in the same place with Lana the last few albums tbh. Honestly, I think fan/stan bases are a bit eager to try and absolve artists of personal accountability when their careers falter. Sometimes that is also in contradiction to the ethics we try to hold others to.
Lextyr97 18,927
Like sure that might’ve helped but who told her to release Witness as it was with some of those crap ass performances.. she didn’t do anything good that would stop the backlash either lmao Edited April 3 by Lextyr97

I strongly disagree. Taylor was literally a 17 year old pop-country artist when she started. Since then she has delved into pop full on and explored various genres like EDM, rock, hip-hop, and indie. Also, Taylor Swift is a much better and versatile songwriter than Katy Perry. She has explored a lot of themes relating to politics, death, relationships, mental health, alcoholism, childhood/maturing etc. If you only listen to Taylor's singles then you won't get it but her deep album cuts have great lyrics. Taylor's music is quite personal and relatable for the average person her age and that sets her apart. trolly troll troll 4 1
weed 70,896
I can see a planned effort to write negative articles around her having happened, and having a negative impact on her career, but I think with proper talent or vision it would not have ended up as it did/she would be seen as an icon today.

When you listen to her albums in full you appreciate the complexity of her song writing more. Because I can’t see how anything was planned for her to have a downfall? She just lost popularity with the public and couldn’t do a rebrand/reinvention of herself because she lacks versatility and let’s be honest she’s not the most talented. For sure lmao
