StarstruckIllusion 53,671
I know half of you here hate TikTok but this is actually a bad thing… The premiere platform for social change getting wiped out is like it good despite how much some may hate it’s vibe or control over the music industry Hope this fails in the Senate but I’m a bit worried

Roughhouse Dandy 13,862
The reasoning behind it is a ridiculous front and senate will most likely kill this, but honestly I won't be bothered if it passes. It spreads so much more wild mis/disinformation than anything helpful. People will find a way to congregate for social change by any means necessary when they feel the need for it. Natalia Kills 428
I wish this happened sooner before TikTok properly took off. It's ruining our attention spans with fast food content, especially kids. Unfortunately, all this potentially means now is that some competitor will just ramp up their product to mimic TikTok and the same poor-quality content cycle will go on. The only plus is on the data collection side. The connections to China are weaker than they used to be, but its data is extremely valuable for bad actors who'd want to use it to sway politics under the guise of democracy (e.g. like how Russia interferes but to a more larger scale). RAMROD 117,983
I don't think they care about funny stuffs happening on Toktok. But they certainly care about the serious side of tok tok, they saw how some of the young people actions there managed to spread awareness of serious subjects like during the Trump presidency, currently about Palestine. And that's what they're afraid of. And that's very dangerous and bleak signs for us ahead that this passed . I didn't say it isn't, although I don't agree that it doesn't censor that topic or spread zionist propo. I'm saying on the macro-level the cons outweigh the pros. Exactly. With terrible youtube shorts and frightening instagram reels I think we're screwed either way. 💛
Shadow 6,707
If a "divided" Congress can agree enough to do this, surely have have the ability to solve some major issues going on in this country like the housing shortage, education reform, homelessness, inflation, monopolies having too much control over market prices, immigration reform, infrastructure, and maybe addressing pollution and damage caused by climate change... But here we go, ban TikTok, who needs that brain drain anyway... Stand in the light, cast your shadow.
Guest
Please. There are legitimate real issues going on in America, and this is a point of focus? A group of aging men who don't know how email even works are putting forth their energy to ban a social media platform because it is run in another country? Truly sad and pathetique.
