You have to really be reaching to have ignored how capitalist Gaga is from the start like....that's literally the whole point of her career lol.

I love her but I don't agree at all. There's nothing specific to capitalism that lifts up art, In fact it's quite the opposite. The only artists it really benefits are those making a specific kind of art that's already popular and easily marketable, those then fight for the top while all the rest get actively pushed down and snuffed out.

There's absolutely a balance in pop music between artistry & capitalism.

The issue is, you can't sell yourself as an artist if the capitalism is obvious. Think of it like the Wizard of Oz, he was nothing without the smokescreen tricks. His power came from a front.

Like we've seen some recent tarnishing of Taylor's reputation with her own fanbase because the blatant chart chasing has reached the point where the fans feel exploited rather than feel like they benefit. The same issue is happening for Gaga & Rihanna where they came up through the ranks as pop acts, and now are showing considerably less care about that aspect of themselves vs the "Product" be it Fenty or HL. People feel like they have lost the benefit.

Where as you have Trixie, who very successfully blends her beautyline into her drag through her youtube and branding of the line. And she continues the original "product" that gave her a fan base - still tours, her youtube mixes between promo videos & actual content etc.

I don't think Gaga has the balance currently, I think the covid massacre of Chromatica tipped the balance off big time so far not much has been done to repair it.

making the tools to create art is part of the artistry and the art itself, there's no art without it, so many make up artists dedicate their life to this, if you think that's not artistry that would be insulting to them.

And on the other hand she has never claimed or pretended that the nurtec or her other sponsorship and brand partnerships are art in itself lol

but is gaga a makeup artist? clearly not. :vegas: next!

but are there make up artists close to her involved in the creations of it alongside her? Clearly yes.:vegas: Next!

Art and artistry can be created in a collective of people, its not usually only one person.

Baby girl has been living in a Malibu mansion for years, and you’re surprised about her stance on capitalism? Some of you really should wake up :laughga: And it’s also not necessarily a bad thing.

You guys are so dramatic, it’s kinda disgusting. Now tell me you didn’t expect Gaga or any other popstar to be a capitalist person, I mean cmon :littlepotter:

I think what Gaga actually meant was you can be involved in commercializing products while being creative, innovative and artsy. That’s her whole brand, not just for Haus Labs, but for Gaga herself.

Also I’d rather have her talking like that and being real and such a smart businesswoman than watch her talking about a art-driven fantasy utopian dream world that we all know it doesn’t exist.

Haus Labs is not artistry, it’s a corporation. Y’all acting like this is the Jeff Koons studio lol.

It’s literally just another LA beauty brand using the GAGA name and all the newly established cosmetics manufacturers and labs in America. Phuong Tran plays a huge part, who worked with Jeffree Star and other LA brands. All these makeup companies use the same people. It’s not art it’s just another businesss. Next.

The capitalism is always obvious like in everything or everywhere. Based on what you’re saying, an artist can only exist in full potential and authenticity in a world where there’s no capitalism at all or they have to perfectly hide it and perform as it didn’t exist. Art and artists do exist in the real world we live in.

It is to some people though. The way you think "music" is art, is probably how others think "makeup" is art.

And she did state her house was full of different products during the testing phases, so clearly she's invested creatively too. :tony:

If there is one thing about Lady Gaga that is absolutely true it’s that she is the queen of contradiction. At this point it’s something I think she does entirely on purpose.

Also, while I actually don’t disagree with anything I’ve heard her say at this summit so far, it is interesting when you compare it to other things she has gone out of her way to say on the same issue. Like in this thread: https://x.com/im_mary_magda/status/1763000849914102089?s=46&t=_EIb-oUloEKgTNwfROZOSg

Or in her: https://x.com/im_mary_magda/status/1762994000636653938?s=46&t=_EIb-oUloEKgTNwfROZOSg

This particular tweet has 17k likes and growing. There are two others with 15k plus as well.

Obviously, context and intent matters but to say “capitalism destroys women” during the HOG press tour and now how it can be friends with art, as a high profile female artist,  could use some explaining on her part if she isn’t contradicting herself on purpose.

you're just factually wrong my friend, Haus labs is not a corporation lol it's a  company, a specific beauty brand that was founded by Gaga herself from the scratch  and is in her own trademark and under her own independent company Ate My Heart Inc, it did not exist before she founded it and they did not jut put Gaga's name in just to it sell it, this is  why so many make up artists who know how the business work have praise the brand in contrast to other celebrities beauty brands that are born just the way you say, and actual makeup artists disagree with you and only praise the brand and the artistry and innovation of it. Next.

Gaga is a beneficiary of capitalism because her music has reached each of us, as we are moved by her art by giving our dollars and talking about her on monetized online platforms. Clearly, an artist can be successful in a capitalist world, because she is. There’s nothing controversial about what she said. If you’re uncomfortable by that statement then you’re uncomfortable by the truth. So many of us are striving for vague moral purity that only wants to cast “capitalism” as the boogeyman, but policing someone for admitting that we’re all participants in it is just… hypocritical. It’s okay to admit that pop stars exist because of the free market, and that we have complicated feelings about that.

much more goes into making makeup than just "selling paint" creating the pallet, designing the box, coming up with a concept and naming the colors accordingly, thats creating and creating is art.

Girl that’s the marketing department :laughga: it can be fun and creative (it is) but let’s not kid ourselves here hahaha
