Only if all the movie songs get scrapped. Tony’s only award original scores. She’d also have to write the whole thing. Stage musicals don’t have different writers for different songs.

Tony’s are designed to protect stage talents from this strategic bs.

That’s actually not true. The stage adaptation of Newsies won best original score while keeping all of the songs from the movie. SpongeBob the Musical also received a nom for Best Score in spite of having songs written by: Bowie, Aerosmith, Panic! At the Disco etc etc

If this is true, it would be HUGE for Gaga’s legacy. What other popstar has her original music AND acting performance turned into a Broadway show?

PLUS it’s even better because it’s zero work for Gaga at this point.

I think Sara Bareilles did for Waitress

Mess, you’re right. That’s so lame omg (I get it for Alan and Newsies but Spongebob’s nom is tragic).

Thanks for correcting me. I don’t really get it as the Tony’s rules seem quite clear but I guess they’re not.

Yeah, I don’t necessarily agree with it either tbh. Feels like they’ve created a really stupid loophole here haha

If she wrote new material for it, she absolutely can win a Tony for this.

The score is already written which would make it ineligible for Best Score, even with a few new songs. I believe at least 50% of the score has to be new to be edible.

Shouldn't be a problem for someone trained. There's far more complicated songs being performed on Broadway every day by the same performers.

The hardest part in my opinion would be finding someone with the vocal personality Gaga has. Because most of the time it feels like no one can cover her music without it sounding like it's just that, a cover, or a karaoke night performance.

Can I vanish into a cheeseburger pizza?

Newsies won while keeping all of the original songs and adding a few. ASIB could be eligible, like I said, if they wrote enough new material.

Girls on Broadway are doing Defying Gravity every night, Shallow’s a cake walk by comparison

This seems very likely. Much smaller movies like Once and Ths Band's Visit have been adapted for Broadway. And the Star Is Born soundtrack keeps racking up streams.

EGOT2027

didn’t she say the special project was music she “wrote and produced.”

this music would not have been produced yet, right?

Okay but a Broadway musical without the man that for away feels so criminal. Im intringued, just dont see how this can work well on theatre
