2026 World Cup key dates and venues

Spoiler

June 11: World Cup opening game and Mexico's first game, Mexico City

June 12: Canada's first game, Toronto

June 12: USMNT's first game, Los Angeles

June 28 to July 3: round of 32 matches in all host cities except Dallas, Guadaljara, Los Angeles and Philadelphia

July 4 to July 7: round of 16 hosted in Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Mexico City, New York/New Jersey, Philadelphia, Seattle and Vancouver

July 9 to 11: hosted in Boston, Kansas City, Los Angeles and Miami

July 14: semifinal one, Dallas

July 15: semifinal two, Atlanta

July 18: third place play-off, Miami

July 19: final, New York/New Jersey

Major points:

After a year of Dallas sucking FIFAs **** they told them to go to hell and awarded the final match to NYC/NJ. This was the correct call after Los Angeles was out of the running.

Team USA will play exclusively on the west coast and will train in Atlanta.

Mexico City will host the opening match as expected because of its status as a legendary soccer venue.

I thought there would for sure be a game in Vegas or SLC :flop:

Vegas did not bid and SLC doesn’t have a viable venue that meets FIFAs requirements.

Oh is it not like Olympics where they can include construction of new venues in the bid? This was for sure spoken about at the SLC City Council and I remember the drama over it

You can but since the US already has all the infrastructure in place as far as stadiums go, no major city decided to construct a new venue specifically for the World Cup. It would’ve been be a huge gamble because the competition was fierce during the bidding process and being selected wasn’t a guarantee. SLC would’ve been one of the least likely cities chosen because of its size had they decided to construct a new larger stadium.

Los Angeles was already in the process of constructing SoFi but the World Cup was not their priority. They basically built that thing because of the NFL and concerts. When they submitted their bid they included both the Rose Bowl and SoFi in their plan as possible venues.

MetLife stadium is in New Jersey.  So I don’t even think it’s fair to say NYC is hosting them LOL

Pronounced like “Balenciaga” . Emphasis on the “Ga”

As far as the world is concerned, it’s NYC. They don’t give af that there’s a river in between Manhattan and MetLife. All of the events and most of the tourists will be staying in NYC and that’s what they’re gonna call it when they arrive. :alsemanche:

Bay Area is hosting 6 matches! It’s weird when all the branding shows San Francisco but the reality is that the venue is about an hour south near San Jose :laughga: We are having the Super Bowl the same year should be a fun year!

@LateToCult The title is incorrect. It is being hosted in NJ not NYC. This is an offense to us New Jersians.

If CBS can label Foxborough as Boston then I can label East Rutherford as NYC. Besides, the tourists won’t know the difference. All the celebrations are gonna be in NYC anyway. :icant:
