We’re all materialistic because we live in a capitalist society primarily, we work to make money and we have to spend money (debt) to make money.

She’s never NOT embraced commercialism, she’s always exercised that aspect of fame. Product placement has been in her music videos since Just Dance. She’s worked with countless brands since her inception as Lady Gaga. 

The lack of passion and energy comment is also off base, it’s clear that she is passionate about building a makeup brand from the ground up. She created makeup that she wears everyday, with her close friends. Makeup is art, it’s creative, she embraced the opportunity to create her own. 

Sure, there are a couple of egregious ads that are off brand, but every celebrity has obligations to fulfill. She has done that since the beginning. 

In the past five years she’s released Chromatica, Love For Sale, House of Gucci, been nominated for an Oscar for Hold my Hand, toured, did Jazz + Piano, Enigma, worked with The Rolling Stones, Haus Labs, Joker.
