Nobody wants to upset the party establishment by launching a serious challenge against the incumbent president. It's 99% likely to fail and would get you blacklisted in the future. So first for context on this result: an incumbent president is almost always assumed to be the party’s defacto nominee, so that would explain the sweeping margin of victory and negligible support for his challengers. Also, presidential primaries are generally the avenue for dyed in the wool partisans (ie people whom, in this instance, would be most likely to vote for Biden due to his incumbency). More broadly, unfortunately, the two major political parties in the US have really consolidated power surrounding how presidents are elected and how major campaigns are funded in general, so it would be damn near impossible for a third party candidate to win via our representative presidential electoral system.
