Its all partially the fault of the United States, rather than working towards integrating Russia into the European order when they had the chance, US policy has turned Russia into a dangerous rogue state. I am not saying that agression should be condoned or appeased, I am saying that Russia intervening in a country that borders them like Ukraine is totally different than planning to attack nato.

Europe literally wanted to integrate Russia so much into the European order to the point they made themselves super reliant on Russian energy, building NordStream 1 and 2, paying tens of billions of dollars to Russia every month.

What else do you want? Just stop justifying nonsense.

I am not talking about Europe, I am talking about the United States which has always been hostile to what they see as Russian ambitions. Nordstream is an economic related issue, not a foreign policy one

Okay, last I checked, Putin returned the favor to Europeans by invading a European country. He's not invading America.

You're grasping at straws and trying to find whatever far-fetched non-sensical reason when there's literally no excuse for what Russia did.

And it's so funny to me how in the same breath you accuse Biden of "supporting a genocide" (when it comes to Israel) but at the same time you criticize him for helping Ukraine which is on the receiving end of another genocide, if we use your standard. So are you really anti-"genocide" or you're selective about it?

I just called Russia a dangerous rogue state, I am certainly not pro russian in this war but unlike you I don't believe in pouring billons of dollars into failed wars. Nor do I subscribe to the fear mongering notion that Russia is planning an invasion of nato borders once they are done in Ukraine.

I have been on Gaga Daily long enough to know that you cherry pick your facts in regards to this war in Ukraine and convince yourself of things just because you want them to be true. Remember when you jumped on the bandwagon about the wagner uprising story and made it seem like a civil war and overthrow of Putin was a real possibility and I told you that was delusional and never going to happen? guess who was correct in the end?

You think that anybody who disagrees with your positions is automatically a pro russian shill, I have observed it when you interact with other users as well. Believe it or not, you are just one guy with an opinion.

As I recall, you are also a zionist who has justified Israels genocide in Gaza.

"Failed wars". You mean supporting Ukraine's right to resist against aggression, killing of their people, as well as kidnapping tens of thousands of their children transfered to Russia (which by the way is an act of genocide, since you care about that so much, selectively).

For both Russia and Israel, my position does not deviate from the position of the International Court of Justice.

I would like to see a withdrawal of Russia from Ukraine, as the ICJ mandated.

For Israel, I would like them to minimize civilian casualties and allow more aid into Gaza (as per the ICJ ruling, had they ordered them to suspend their military operations, I would've considered Israel in violation of international law as of now, but the court declined to order that for now). More importantly there has to be a long-term solution, with the release of the hostages, removal of hamas and establishment of two states (per Resolution 242). If that makes me a "zionist", deal me in.

Russia is not going to leave Ukraine and they lack the strength to force Russia out as proven by the disastrous failed counter offensive, I think in terms of reality, not hopes.

You would like to see Israel minimize civilian casualties? well I would like to see them stop killing civilians right this minute, we need a ceasefire, not dithering from a court that refuses to put Israel on a leash. You put too much stock in these failed institutions like nato and international courts, just like those who thought the league of nations could prevent WWII. Israel might not technically be in violation of international law, they are in violation of all human rights and are carrying out crimes against humanity as far as I am concerned.

The United States, is still stuck in cold war mentality rather than working towards integrating Russia into the European order when they had the chance, US policy has turned Russia into a dangerous rogue state. I am not saying that agression should be condoned or appeased, I am saying that Russia intervening in a country that borders them like Ukraine is totally different than planning to attack nato.

You can make the same argument about 1930's Germany. They only were intervening in countries that bordered them, not planning to go further :huntyga:

The world made significant efforts to integrate with Russia when the USSR dissolved. They normalised relations, set up established diplomatic networks, multiple European countries brokered business deals with Russian companies. The world agreed numerous treaties towards downscaling military weaponry, mainly nuclear weaponry, that was established during the Cold War era. The US also supported Russia in 2004 in a military conflict in the Pankisi Gorge. There's a reason why the global economy took at hit at the onset of the Ukraine conflict and it isn't just the reduced export supply of grain from Ukrainian producers.

Meanwhile, Russia in 1994 invaded Chechnya for declaring independence leading to an estimated 100,000 civilian casualties. Russia then re-invaded in 1999 leading to the deaths of a minimum of 30,000 civilians and the upper estimate is 80,000. Then you have the South Ossetia war & Georgian Civil War in 1991 where Russia supported the violent removal of the Georgian President. You also have the 2008 Russo-Georgian war which led to ethnic cleanising in South Ossetia & Abkhazia. The 2013 Euromaidan. The 2014 invasion of Crimea.

That's not even considering the role of Wagner in Belarus, Syria, numerous African nations, Libya & Venezula. And the unconfirmed Wagner activities in Moldova, Nagorno-Karabakh & Serbia.

With the exception of the First Chechen war, all of these occurred under Putin.

Now, America engages in similar although often more covert behaviour than Russia. But to say that Russia was forced into this behaviour is nonsense - Putin is a dictator, his activities are entirely focused on improving his own power and serving his personal interests. The world, particularly Western Europe collaborated heavily with Russia in the Yeltzin years and for the majority of Putin's time in power. Western Europe only took a firm stance against Russia in 2022 when Putin invaded Ukraine. Prior to that the UK's governing party was heavily aligned with Kremlin political groups, Germany & much of central Europe had a very strong energy market with Russia & France had driven the peace process that prevented a war during the 2014 invasion of Crimea, the Donbass and Luhansk.

America talked a big game against Russia, but the only people who took action to reduce peaceful cooperation were the Republicans under Trump who repeatedly refused to extend the New START treaty (An Obama treaty from 2009-11). Biden in 2021 secured 2 extensions to this treaty prior to Russia's suspension of the treaty in 2023.

I would love to see an end to the war altogether, not just a ceasefire.

Yes to a ceasefire that ensures the release of the hostages. But what does it matter if hostilities will restart few months from now anyways?

The only solution is a two-state solution, and the removal of Hamas. And I think the Biden administration is doing a good job pushing for a two-state solution.

You say Trump is not a big deal, he unilaterally recognized all of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel which complicates U.S negotiating position now since Palestinians want eastern Jerusalem.

When did I say Trump is not a big deal? I said that fear mongering about Trump is not a good way for Biden to win re-election, it did not work in 2016 and its not going to work this time. Biden needs to focus on trying to promote his achievements, not fear monger about Trump becoming a dictator, nobody buys that and the average voter is too stupid to even care. The hilarious thing about all this is that democrats try to depict Trump as an incompetent boob in cognitive decline one minute and a mastermind who is planning to be a dictator that tried to steal the election in a vast conspiracy the next, make up your minds please.
