Gen Z girls are becoming more liberal while Gen Z boys are becoming more conservative!

But what ideology? the US liberal/conservative ideology is not the same as the UK liberal/conservative ideology for example, politics and right/left wing ideologies are totally different and unique to each and every country.

Very interesting and also troubling. Reminds me of this:

It's increasingly argued that young men growingly link conservative/right wing ideology with masculinity due to these above mentioned political developments. This means that, though most young men don't give a **** about politics, they'll vote for performative reasons. From the same analysis: "In a survey we conducted last year, nearly half of young men said it was important that people saw them as masculine, and nearly 4 in 10 said they had been teased growing up for not being manly enough. The need to affirm their masculinity may influence their political choices."

Men need to start to realize/be made more aware that they are victims of toxic masculinity too...

Seriously I thought that culture was changing for the better but this is very confronting news and backs up suspicions I already had. There's something about the combination of the internet, podcasters like Andrew Tate, other terrible male role models, hyperfocus on appearance and attractiveness which goes hand in hand with social media (see looksmaxxing ) that is messing up boys/young men and just breeding these useless, conservative incels that only think in 'alpha male' 

The US graph at least backs up exactly how I've been feeling online.. that guys in the 2010's were becoming better people, but it's dropped off significantly in the past 5~ years. Whereas women seem to be waking up to the misogyny ingrained in society and saying no more, and have more strong role models now than ever who teach them things like compassion and their own self worth. Such weird times we're living in. Things are changing so much everywhere you look

Why do you I feel like you compare US politics to the rest of world? Left and right wing is completely different in every country. I think we shouldn't judge or try to clock men outside of the US.

I blame stupid internet algorithims for this. Its making ppl even more biased and divides even bigger and i dont think the rise in political divides coincided in timing to when social media really took off.

 

Ppl generally get fed view points on internet they already agree with to reinforce their existing ideologies, and occasionally a super opposing view to reinforce how "stupid and irrational" the opposing side is. Its not just sex or gender. It is also the population as a whole is getting a wider divide

 

Since males have had a tendency to be a bit more right wing and females more left wing, the widening divide would disproportionally seperate ppl by gender as well so im not surprised this happened.

 

But ppl have become more polarized in general period. Among people that are the reverse of the norm (liberal males and conservative females) im willing to bet if u zoomed into them specifically the divide also widened just as much

Ive always said this. Toxic masculinity also affects men negatively just in different ways

 

For women it makes them targets of objectification, being viewed as less capable, emotional etc all the standard stuff we talk about

 

But it also has negative impacts for men. A constant having to prove masculinity, not being able to be as expressive or show weakness. Higher suicide rates cuz its more taboo for men to be seen as having mental illness or showing vulnerability. Men need to realize it affects them too in not so indirect ways

 

i myself am not immune to this. I was constantly teesed at school for sucking at sports, bullied for liking pop music and now i feel unattactive and go to gym 5 days a week cuz men are supposed to be muscular but my genetics dont like making muscle

 

My wife also makes more per hour than I do ($26/h vs $23.25/h for me) and i know there is absolutely nothing wrong with that whats so ever intelectually yet I still feel odd about it despite the fact i still make more in total (cuz i work more hours).

 

Just goes to show how deep rooted social norms go. Even when u know it doesnt make sense sometimes u still get affected by it cuz ur raised ur whole life with those norms to ur face.

 

Maybe doesnt help that i live in one of the worst developed Countries for gender equality (economically speaking)

I think in a lot of countries there is a close resemblance to the US in principal.

 

But yeah in every country its different. For example here in Canada the biggest difference between political parties is economic strategies (and environmental). Socially speaking tho the differences are not massive

 

While there is still some gaps (conservatives were not as enthuzed to legalized same sex marriage in 2005, or abortion etc)... there isnt some push to reverse them either, in fact i doubt Canadas conservatives would even try to go into that subject now after all this time

 

Even immigration policy which in a lot of Countries is a hot topic all the time for the longest time wasnt a thing here. All 3 main Canadian parties supported immigration as did the population and policy didnt change much between parties. Its only recently its become a bigger topic because the immigrantion rates have become so high and housing crisis so bad, that the support for high immigration (especially among conservatives) is no longer so unanomous

 

But if u applied US politics to Canada lets say u might assume a conservative is anti immigration and a liberal is pro even years ago which there was very little difference between political sides on this issue
