That Barbie was severely snubbed

I mean a commercial comedy film is very much not oscar bait so it's a miracle it's got 7 noms in the first place tbf

Honestly I'm not even mad about Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig getting snubbed.

I liked Barbie but there was a point where I just wanted it to end because it was dragging.

- Barbie really underperformed my goodness and America still showed up... woman got her supporters!

- France really f*cked up lmfao... go Anatomy and Sandra!

- happy to see Nimona and Elemental in animated

- knew Leo was gonna miss and Benning and Domingo would make it + Maestro doing well... don't underestimate a Netflix oscar bait lol

- happy that Danielle Brooks made it despite The Color Purple flopping!

- kinda sad for Dua, if that "not more than two songs per movie" rule was not a thing, she would have easily been in

- lmfao I forgot about Diane Warren, she got a spot reserved for her every year at point

I don't think Margot was snubbed, I believe the goal is to campaign for the best movie instead of for best actress, which is a tough category and a bit of a waste of time this year because there are some obvious winners, that's why Ryan Gaslighting is in supporting character and not lead, he has more chances to win there with the right campaign.

Controversiaga

The Barbie role wasn’t written to be a stand out role, the way Ken was.  Both Margot and Ryan gave those performances their all- but the character of Barbie got lost in the chaos of the movie- making Ken the only role to really shine and stand out. He was the only role you were actually entertained by- whereas Barbie’s role was just driving the plot so we’re following it but that was it.

it wasn’t an award worthy role imo- regardless of who played it.

Pronounced like “Balenciaga” . Emphasis on the “Ga”

Reality

I'm gonna be honest, I loved Barbie, but I'm so over Ken. Ryan Gosling was funny, but the fact that Ken got so much attention felt icky. Like, there was actually a lot of stuff to talk about with the Barbie storyline, but people just sidelined that for "omg isn't Ken so funny?!", "omg I'M KENOUGH!". The fact that neither Margot nor Greta were nominated for their respective parts of the movie and Ryan was kinda proves the movie right. Literally giving men praise for the bare minimum

Magic Mike

I'm surprised to see The Zone of Interest nominated for so many categories, including best film - perhaps the most pertinent commentary on the Palestinian question. It's certainly the alien on this year's list, but it's also one of the most anti-cinema objects I've ever seen. I don't know what to make of this film, which has no point of view and wants to show the big brother of the Nazi idyll.

i think emma stone deserves the oscar for her performance as lanthimos' weird barbie.

i'm also disappointed that bradley cooper wasn't nominated for directing maestro, which is full of passionate experimentalism and serene devotion to the work of the actors. It's interesting to realise that he's recapturing an energy from the cinema of the 1970s, of which Scorsese (one of the producers of Maestro) was one of the most important protagonists, and that this year he's presenting us as a director with a lacklustre epic.

for the rest, I'm not thrilled by the palm d'or, nor by Nolan's three-hour trailer full of self-importance, which will probably get him the recognition he's always wanted from the Academy.

Daenerys

I’m sorry, but after watching The Color Purple I can’t believe how left in the dust it was.

Daenerys of the House Targaryen, the First of Her Name, The Unburnt, Queen of the Andals, the Rhoynar and the First Men, Queen of Meereen
