I mean it was "proven fake" if you believe Ariana's PR team which spun into action only in time to promote her latest single, sure. 

Her whole discography is filled with these type of songs (One Last Time and Break Up with Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored... to name two) so I'm not sure why it would be a 'sad and mean joke'

Didn’t she say BUWYB is about realizing she’s become a different person in a relationship and looking at her “old self” and having a desire for her boyfriend to break up with her. I don’t relate One Last Time to this either cause it’s self-reflecting on and admitting to a mistake rather than unabashed “steal your man” type music, which the former can definitely be interpreted as

That’s not really what the movie is about at all lol. The husband (Jim Carrey) decides to undergo a procedure to erase his memories with his wife after learning that his wife (Kate Winslet) is having it done. They ultimately end up back together anyway and other minor characters’ lives go awry due to the procedures as well
