Bison 'visits' courtyard of 15th century monastery in Romania

A bison entered the courtyard of the Neamţ Monastery, and the images of this unusual visit were posted on Facebook.

The bison took advantage of the fact that the monastery gates were open and entered the inner courtyard. He walked for a few minutes on the alleys covered with a layer of snow, without being disturbed by the presence of some employees of the monastery. S

 

This is a symbolic moment as the bison was the medieval symbol of Moldova before going exinct in the 1700s. The species was however gradually reintroduced in the wild in the recent decades and its numbers grew to the point that the sight of a bison next to a 15th century Moldovan monastery is, once again, possible.

It is good news that bisons are not extinct anymore and can live again in their nature. I heard at the Poland-Belarus border is a national park were bisons also live in the wild.

Someone give the bison something to eat. (Maybe a naughty child?)

I guess they never were? Do u mean they were endangered... or were they mistakenly thought to be extinct?

They went extinct in Romania and in many other areas in Eastern Europe (not extinct as a whole, otherwise they would not have been able to make a comeback ofc, unless through genetic editing but we're not there yet ).

The subspecies of bisons which used to live around the Carpathians and the Caucasus Mountains dissapeared, but Romania reintroduced bisons from Poland which naturalized easily. Given the succes of reintroduction programs across Eastern Europe, there are further plans to send bisons from Europe to the Caucaus Mountains (I made a thread about this also in the past ).

Białowieża Forest is an UNESCO heritage site and one of the last remnants of the  Ancient forest which used to cover most of the European continent.  Honestly I wanna go and live there.

according to the article they were extinct in Moldova in the 1700s. Not extinct globally I don't know if the word "extinct" can be used it is local or whether it is global

It is a unique place like Danube Delta and Camargue Delta. It's a great calm place for itself but I think we must look at the big region as a whole, it is a very remote place, the next biggest metropolises are Minsk and Warsaw and Vilnius and Minsk and Warsaw aren't so beautiful cities. One would live in a region where the BF is the only highlight.

I thought this said "Biden" first and I was like "wow he is trying to repent for his sins in regards to Gaza I see  But a Bison is much better visiting such a holy place. I would assume Biden would combust into flames if he entered a monastery

There is a the alternative of living as a hermit in an improvised shelter (going back to our ancestrals origins ). I think all the cities you mentioned are beautiful and would love to visit them (maybe not reside in them, necessarily). Especially Warsaw and Minsk, which in terms of architecture is an East meets West/ capitalism meets communism type of place (fun fact: the bison too is a symbol of Belarus).
