Fun fact: one of oldest flags of the Principality of Moldova is an embroidery of St George fighting a dragon (see below).  It's now housed at the Museum of History in Bucharest and it was gifted by Stephen the Great to a monastery on Mount Athos (because after the Fall of Constantinopole, the princes of Moldova and Wallachia replaced the role of the Byzantine emperor and financially supported Mount Athos, which became in a way an outpost of the Romanian Principalities deep inside the Ottoman Empire, if not militarily at least symbolically). My favorite map of medieval Moldova makes note of this fact!
