She was mentally and physically abused / used by her mother for attention (talking pretending her daughter was ill and giving her medication for things she didn’t have), causing her to plan the murder of her mom which her former boyfriend committed. She was jailed for planning it. Her mother was a shitty person, which is why many people support Gypsy. Her mom made her sick and told a lot of lies to/about her because of munchausen by proxy. Gypsy eventually had her mother killed and went to prison for it. She got a lot of press before and after her mother's death so her case became popular in true crime circles. They made a limited series about the case on Hulu. She just got released from prison and many people think she didn't deserve to be there in the first place, so she's getting a lot of attention. She orchestrated the killing of her mother (who had Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy and made Gypsy act disabled and wheelchair bound and forced her to be underweight) with her boyfriend she met online. Members of Gypsy's family believe her mom Dee Dee also killed her own mom by starving her and believe she also poisoned Gypsy's step mother with round-up. Some people believe Gypsy and/or her then boyfriend didn't deserve the sentences they got. As Gypsy got sympathy for her abuse and she wasn't the one who physically committed the murder, she got a plea deal for 10 years. In his trial, Gypsy said she told her boyfriend Godejohn to kill her mother and his lawyers argued his IQ of 82 and autism made him vulnerable to be influenced to commit the crime. Godejohn was sentenced to life in prison without parole for reasons including he did not experience abuse himself, traveled across the country to kill her, said he intended to r*pe Dee Dee too.
