Perfect Celebrity 1,617
I use autopilot every day, and I have to question the authenticity of the statement that lady made about the guy reclined using it. At least with my experience, autopilot will disengage if the sensor cannot see your eyes, and it will alarm and disengage if your eyes are not on the road for more than a few seconds. Also, autopilot cuts off at 85 mph so there’s no way he was actually going 95 mph. All that said though, there are definitely some things that need to be adjusted and fixed with autopilot and I hope to see a good update coming soon. Mine has this issue with random braking where it will just hit the brakes out of no where. It’s never done it with a car behind me, but it’s still annoying and uncomfortable. Autopilot needs some work but I believe this news report exaggerated some things to scare people who don’t use it.

Tesla obviously had to OK their use of Tesla vehicles in the movie, so did they not understand the context could be troubling?

It's worth the watch but the ending is a little too open/ended for some.

I have definitely seen Tesla drivers not watching the road or actively doing something else while on autopilot in LA, the Bay, and Seattle. I think there’s even triple x videos of people getting it on in Teslas that are moving.

There used to be these little weights you could put on your steering wheel to mimic your hands being on the wheel, but an update went out about a year ago that could tell if you were using those. Now, the car will make you touch the wheel every 30-45 seconds and the sensor watches your eye movement to make sure you are looking at the road every 10 seconds or so. If you don’t do that, it will disable the autopilot feature until your next drive. If you get disabled enough, it will just take away the feature completely. I’ve always felt safe with it, as long as I’m paying attention to the road. technically you could be doing another task with your hands as long as you are checking the road with your eyes and touching the wheel every so often
