See I don’t think plane is even remotely a heavy hitter lol all she has is being unapologetic. But…does she even have that really when the show was recorded ages ago? Lmao I just find her drag so middle of the road POV. She tries to do bimbo, but then tries weird humor that honestly isn’t funny. Her facial expressions are just like generic drag comedy expressions and it just feels off. Then her looks are never bad but they aren’t show stoppingly memorable either and the makeup is pretty samey (I’m shocked they only clocked megami for that). I just think without meanness, she’s just kinda there without any clear standout skills from the others besides coming in to be mean without any sort of fun to it? I like the tv drama for sure but I feel like if I’m looking at who is genuinely front runner status it’s very clearly only (in groups, no particular order) sapphira, plasma, and nymphia. Jane and Q would come after that. Then Xunami and Morphine. Then Mhi’ya. She’s thoroughly in the middle imo. Like until she truly stunts on the girls with her ability alone…I ain’t buying front runner status.

and her makeup is terrible

I feel like Plane has studied drag race and very much knows what Ru likes to do great on the show. The whole point of Burger Finger was that it’s pointless and absurd. She’s a jack of all trades and even if she’s not the best at everything, she uses her personality to stand out. Her reads could use some work but I find her fun and she definitely does not come across as a genuine mean girl, rather someone who understands the assignment of playing a character on TV. Those who think that she’s mean are just plain dumb.

Plane dumb, even? :laughga:

fr though I agree with you! But that’s where I think it’s kind of whatever. It’s so transparently an act that I’m like eh whatever. Even burger finger just felt like an overthought attempt at “stupid humor.” Idk I feel like I can see the strings of her act so much and I think she has yet to really show HER and HER perspective. Like you said, she’s doing what RuPaul wants to see which is lovely for getting far but it’s not for winning unless you flex you and your art

Drag is literally an act, lol. And her branding has been established years before the show as, to quote herself, “equal parts camp and c*nt” so she’s not portraying anyone other than herself on the show. Just happens to be presented in the perfect way that Ru loves. Also, stupid humor cannot be overthought as it’s not that deep, just stupid. :ladyhaha: It’s another thing if one finds it funny or not, and it’s fine that everyone doesn’t.

Well what I mean is it all feels forced which is the death knell to performance. But also being “camp and c*nt” isn’t really a brand…that’s like 95% of drag queens lmao im not saying she’s fake im saying she doesn’t really stand out without the edit putting her there. I’ve yet to really see something that’s like oh wow yeah you yourself are different and standout. Sapphira stands out for her poise and polish, plasma for her theatricality and penchant for era-specific stuff and musical theater. Nymphia for being a little silly and mischievous and insanely capable. Standing next to these ones with clear, unique artistic POVs I’m just not seeing where Jane’s stands out at all. Fact is, if you fade into the background except for when you’re manufacturing bullshit fights then you’re really not all that

I agree with all your points about how the other queens stand out. But Plane's whole drag aesthetic and "unique artistic POV" of looking stunning but having that clown-y, campy, sometimes explicit side to her looks and performance is definitely not the 95% standard for queens. She stands out well enough even without her self-produced moments which are just a plus and make for entertaining TV. Without her the cast would be just boring af. Some people just don't like her and can't stand that she's more successful at drag race than their faves. Haters stay hating, but please focus that passion on your faves instead. And that applies to everyone.

Spoiler

Can't wait to see Plane and Sapphira demolishing the second half of the season.

Gardevoir

They invited Melissa McCarthy just to give them advice during rehearsal? Not even a panel? That is a shame.

But that Rusical was spectacular. Really one of the best of the series.

I think harassing and attacking queens for what they do in a reality TV show is stupid and absurd. At the end of the day, they're real people and what we see on TV is not 100% indicative of who they are in the real world.

That being said, Plane presented herself as a villain. She's literally self-producing to be the villain. She knows what she's doing, and it's not really surprising that people aren't loving it. Like, don't be shocked that people don't like you when you go on TV and consciously decide to portray yourself as a villain.

Admittedly, I've liked her more in these past few episodes, but her role in this season is to be the antagonist.

She was also the voiceover for the Rusical!

Respectfully, read the comments I was replying to. I wasn’t talking about her getting flack for being an antagonist (I enjoy that and I think the controversy is reflective of her doing a good job), I was referring, albeit flippantly, at people promoting the idea that she’s not talented, not especially good at drag, unoriginal etc etc

My comment was more so just my general thoughts about the "Plane Jane hate train" that's been going on since Episode 1, not in response to anything else in this thread specifically.

Like I said, I think people attacking or harassing any queen for what they do & how they present on TV is uncalled for.

As we've gotten to see more of Plane, I understand her point of view on drag a bit more now, but I think a lot of why people dislike her drag is because of the character she presented herself as. When you present yourself as a manipulative villain character, people will tend to look at you with a more critical eye because they're not entirely sure what's real and what's not.

For example, I do think the comparisons to Jimbo in the first couple of episodes were somewhat valid. S16 was filmed before AS8, and of course, Plane didn't know Jimbo was going to be on the show again. So for people to say that she's "copying" Jimbo is a stretch. I just think it's incredibly unfortunate timing and circumstance: you're presenting as a manipulative villain, you set yourself up for comparisons when you bring in Katya for your MTQ, and you're coming off of one of the most beloved winners of the franchise in Jimbo. That's a recipe for disaster—whether unintentional or not.

Plastic Flower

I like Plasma but I just don't see her as a winner. :poot: I'm surprised they actually gave her a second win but congrats girl you deserve it.

I don't get the hype for Q. Beautiful gowns.

Drop it
