To sum it up...

original ARTPOP

- Sound: hiphop influenced EDM (Hallelujah, Cake, Kendrick Lamar collabs, Azealia Banks collabs, Manicure demo)

- Concept: decay of the blonde superstar (a nod to "it girls" like Lindsay Lohan, Anna Nicole Smith, Marilyn Monroe. Centered around fame, drugs and nightlife)

- Visuals: "sad party girl" aesthetic, that was huge among teenagers during the tumblr days (teased in her Stache/Princess Die mini era, streetwear and social media posts)

official ARTPOP

- Sound: EDM with a less clear direction (with more experimental songs like Aura or ballads like Dope)

- Concept: pop music as a vehicle for art (extravagant, artistic references like Andy Warhol and Botticelli, as well as Greek Mythology, which resulted in a less relatable concept for the audience)

- Visuals: camp, avant garde fashion, with a focus on technology (Fiber optic wig, Ipad dress, bubble dress, Volantis)

Eh, Aura was one of the earlier demos for AP, so I’m fairly certain that it was somehow worked into the aesthetic/sound. What’s more, given the treatment we saw for the MANiCURE video, it’s pretty clear AP was always going to be camp.

We have forgotten our public MANNERS
