TEANUS 12,463
To this day, 911’s “single” treatment is so odd to me. The video had all the makings of something could’ve had viral value. The Chromatica II transition already went viral once. The song was a fan and GP favorite. She performed it at the VMAs and slayed the ceremony. All was looking good for a sure fire mainstream relaunch of the Chromatica era…..then nothing happened. After the VMAs, we got the video and the Billboard magazine cover/feature and that was it. It was sent to radio in France and Italy, but not in the US, the UK, or anywhere else. I understand she was called to the election and ALWAYS applaud her focus on philanthropy, especially in such a time as wild as 2020, but as has been said time after time: everyone else who had stuff out didn’t get judged for still promoting their own stuff and had massive success (Dua, The Weeknd, Megan, etc). I mean the album was about dealing with a hard reality via an escape in dance music, and we largely had nothing to escape to with 911’s release. Even in 2016 she did a lot of campaigning during the election but still promoted Joanne at the same time. I know now I’m getting too into stuff that’s been discussed to death. I just wish they had at least sent it to radio, not used the song in election material but maybe a “911/urgency” call to vote angle here and there (think Dua using the Break My Heart lyrics to push “stay at home”), released merch, and done some fun social media content like they did for SL and ROM. hELXIG 41,600
She's right and she should say it! 911 was also a return in a way to her electronic dance roots and sounded reminiscent of quintessential early Gaga, which I think people would've loved I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin. 1
ARTSEX 1,077
This brings me 2020 memories. Apparently Sour Candy was supposed to be the next single after ROM, but once it became obvious that the lockdown wouldn't end soon, (so video with Blackpink and Gaga in the same room was out of question), they went for the song that stood out with streams from the rest of Chromatica tracks - 911, but by the time 911 was released as a single the trend (Chromatica II Interlude transitioning into 911) was gone, The 911 single release was supposed to come earlier but they didn't want it to come too close to 9/11, so although the video was ready they pushed it back for a while. Let's not forget that towards the end of 2020 Gaga had a family member seriously sick from Covid (speculated to be Cynthia's mom), so her mind wasn't in promoting Chromatica. Aside from that, she started to heavily prepare for House of Gucci (as she said 6 months before the shooting stated, she began to be in the role), so I kind of understand why Chromatica didn't receive bigger promo during that time. Edit: Interscope did go forward and released 3 official remixes, but we know they didn't help much (for its single run). Edited December 3, 2023 by ARTSEX Dance. Sex. Art. Anderson123 35,599
She lost a family member to COVID around that time so she obviously didn’t care about promoting music. Chromatica was simply released during the worst time, 2020 was just tragedy from start to finish.
Controversiaga 9,272
I don’t think it is a single tho ? It just got a music video but it was never released as an official single, right? ARTSEX 1,077
Also fans have speculated that it wasn't send to U.S. radios because they didn't fully support her previous Chromatica singles. Stupid love (very radio friendly) failed to reach top 10 on pop radios despite Gaga's improved image post-ASIB, while ROM only hit #10 on pop (with Ariana whose singles were going big on radios). Head Empty 24,260
Music Videos like G.U.Y., John Wayne and 911 felt like they were released for the fans rather than for a commercial hit. They never really get a ton of promo after the video gets posted. Happiness will never last, darkness comes to kick your ass... ᵃˢˢ 🕺

nATAH 42,348
the lack of merch is what bothers me, not even a third picture disc to complete the set it feels like they tried to relaunch chromatica and leave the tribal/fictional planet aesthetic behind in favour of the "traumatica" feel that was used for the tour design Edited December 3, 2023 by NATAH mother, what must i do?
