Shakira has paid 6.6 million euros ($7.2 million) to a Spanish court investigating her for unpaid taxes in 2018, her agent said Friday, just days after she reached a deal to avoid trial in another tax case.

Spanish prosecutors in July opened a second case against the singer, accusing her of using a network of companies, some of them based in tax havens, to cheat Spain's tax office out of some 6.6 million euros in 2018, including interest and adjustments.

She is accuses of defrauding €5.3 million ($5.8 million) from her 2018 tax return, corresponding to income from her tour that year and from the transfer of her intellectual rights, plus another 773,600 euros ($845,000) in wealth tax for the nearly 12 million she holds in real estate and financial assets.

Shakira paid the court in August the agency that represents her told AFP. Now she is waiting for the magistrate to summon her to testify.

The 6.6-million-euro payment does not imply either the singer's guilt or innocence in the case, but is "another demonstration of her willingness to repay her possible debts to the Spanish tax authorities."

Separately, the "@Waka Waka" singer Monday reached a last-minute settlement with Spanish prosecutors to avoid trial for tax fraud on income she earned between 2012 and 2014.

Exactly, pay your taxes!

Dejare de quererte cuando un pintor sordo pinte el sonido de un pétalo al caer en el suelo de cristal de un castillo que no existe.

Taxes usually dont land u in prison anyway so im not surprised. 9 times out of 10 the government gives u a chance to pay what u owe rather than throw u in prison. At the most they may punish u with interest

At least in my Country theres usually warnings and interest applied to unpaid taxes. Extra charge penalties if its found to be of reasonable certainty the person purposely evaided them. But usually not prison unless u still refuse to pay it

I assume its like that in most other Western Countries as well

Waka waka mod is so sad :traumatica:

this case is not over. she only paid her tax liability for 2018 to benefit from the mitigating circumstance if she is convicted of tax fraud again.
